This was posted in June, I discovered it a bit late, but I still think is pretty awesome. I hope more bands do the same.
..but if I hear the phrase "carbon footprint" one more time... !
Incubus Lightens Environmental Impact on Upcoming Light Grenades Tour
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Los Angeles, CA – Incubus are known to many for their longtime commitment to the environment and social causes through their charitable foundation, The Make Yourself Foundation. That commitment will be on display this year on the band's 40-date North American Light Grenades tour, launching July 8th at Anselmo Valencia Amphitheater in Tucson, AZ. This year, Incubus is working with the Sustainable Minded Artists Recording and Touring (SMART) program to lessen their environmental impact by overhauling their touring operations from fuel use to fan t-shirts.
The SMART program aims to immediately and dramatically reduce the environmental impact of music industry operations, transform these operations to a status quo of sustainability, and set the music industry standard in greening initiatives. Incubus is working with SMART to: - Reduce CO2 emissions by fuelling tour vehicles with biodiesel and reducing vehicle idling at venues - Offset the tour's remaining emissions via carbon dioxide offsets through NativeEnergy - Use sustainable goods and services including organic food, organic cotton merchandise, and 100% recycled paper - Reduce waste by using less disposables and working with venues to increase recycling - Encouraging fans to take action by providing information at shows, selling fan offsets, and facilitating tabling by environmental groups including Heal The Bay, Surfrider Foundation, The Ocean Conservancy, and Environmental Defense Fund
Brandon Boyd from Incubus notes, "It's incredibly important to us as a band to preserve the environment when we're on tour. We now have the resources to not only neutralize our carbon footprint, but to help make the environment better each time we're on tour."
"We couldn't be more excited about Incubus' involvement in SMART, and the many things they're doing on the road and with their Make Yourself Foundation to truly make a difference. Our aim is to make it easy for bands like Incubus to keep their focus on the music, while we help make the whole touring process more environmentally friendly. The band's leadership and action will result in an even greater impact when their fans join them in action, and SMART helps to bring that message to fans in a way that complements the concert experience," states Wren Aigaki-Lander, Director of Enviro Music Programs at MusicMatters.

I love this and I wish more artists did this as well, but I always wonder why pollution from animal production is never mentioned? According to a UN report, rearing cattle produces more greenhouse gases than driving cars.
Im looking more and more into this carbon off-set thing. Id liketo become carbon neutral. My thing is, what the H are these Carbon Off-Sets?? And that you have to purchase them? Ill need to do further research into them. Anyone know?
I just read through my Spin magazine (Amy Winehouse, July) and discovered "It ain't easy being green," an article about band's efforts to raise environmental awareness. It questions whether their "intentions are going up in smoke," but regardless it's spreading the word on what people are doing and gives ideas on what you can do to help ... they even mention Bonnaroo
