Sucks that it's conflicting with the same two nights of the Railroad Earth/Hot Buttered Rum shows at the Gothic in CO, but I guess I'll just have to split things up! I should probably wait for my first actual show at Red Rocks next week before deciding which one I'll hit. It would be great to see him at the Fillmore.

I've got a buddy coming in from Chicago for the Fillmore and Red Rocks shows this weekend and I'm fu*king amped. Colorado Ron, are you going to make it out to either of these? The reviews of the past weekend's shows are of course mixed, but all of the highlights (and many of the lowlights) make it sound like this one is going to be right up my alley.

Aly before the Dead???? Scary thought.
Indeed... it wasn't good. I was trapped in a world of metal and classic rock
Chick Deadhead since birth. Went with the 'rents to see Bobby last month. They felt the need to brag they saw the Dead at the Fillmore East in '70, among other places.

My parents were on the opposite end of the spectrum from yours
...and My friends were hoodlums. It took a while to get there but I did. (this conversation explains the quote in my sig)

I saw them Sunday at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. It was a sight to behold. The sun was shining, the crowd was insane, and the band rocked. Phil looked good. A little thin and gaunt, but he seemed to be having fun. Highlights included Going Down the Road Feeling Bad (as an encore with Mark Karan), Why Don't We Do It in the Road, Fire On the Mountain, Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, and Sugar Magnolia. This new kid, Jackie Greene, does a great job with the vocals. It's still early in the tour and there were some kinks to work out. And they played more of Jackie Greene's stuff than I expected. But listening to some of my favorite music at one of my favorite venues was a glorious experience.

Ready to rock out of work in a few minutes, shoot home to change and recover my friend who flew in, then it's off to Sancho's Broken Arrow, the Dead themed bar about 50 feet away from the Fillmore to pre-game for the show. I'm happy. ;D

we dont get any good jam music out here in KY, its lame..he must love NY heha i'm jealous. The closest any form of the dead (since i've been old enough for mom to let me experience concertslol) has gotten around here is Noblesville Indiana, The Dead w/ Warren Haynes....Best show i've been blessed to go to...I can hear lucy in the sky now....amazingg
I'm just listening to this now and am glad to know it was as stunning as I thought it to be that night. People can rag on Jackie all they want, but the kid puts some passion into the vocals, plus he's learning to get pretty damn weird and wonderful on the guitar with each passing night under the watchful eye of Larry Campbell, and puts special attention on the lyrics with his articulation...works for me and then some!
That night at Red Rocks was something special. Fillmore was great too, but I got kind of wrecked and my buddy trumped me ten fold, so the night ended a little more abruptly than expected -- still memorable!
thanks for that link. its really great to relive some moments from that night. first time at red rock and phil really put on a show. great atmosphere also, reminded me of Bonnaroo....
