Just posted this elsewhere, but I thought it might make a good thread on it's own... Best Concerts ever (festivals not included)
These are mine* ;D
What are yours?
#1 Pink Floyd- Yankee Stadium 1994 Flaming lips- Maxwells, NJ 1996 White Stripes- Keyspan Park, Coney Island 2005 David Gilmour- Radio City Music Hall 2005 Black Sabbath- Nassau Collesium 2000 Roger Waters (on his birthday)- PNC Bank Arts Center, NJ 2006 NY Dolls- CBGB's 2006 Allman Brothers/Tom Petty- Dodge Music Center, Hartford 2006 David Byrne- Apollo Theatre, NY 2002 Radiohead- Madison Square Garden 2001 (*list subject to change in varying degrees based on my mood/memory at any given moment)
*edit* Alyroo has a good point, aside from #1, I'm taking away the rankings... somehow seems unfair to assign descending #'s to performances that were all, well... AWESOME, to say the least!
#1 stays where it is though, probably forever is my guess
Rush - Rosemont Horizen - Chicago - 1984 or 85 Kiss - Hara Arena - Dayton - 1984 or 85 Motley Crue - Mississippi Colisuem - in the 90's Metallica, GnR, Faith No More - SuperDome - NOLA - sometime in the 90's Chris Robinson & New Earth Mud - Alabama Theater - B'ham - 2002 Kid Rock - UNO Lakefront Arena - NOLA - 2002 A Perfect Circle - Mississippi Coliseum - 2003 Kid Rock - Mississippi Coliseum - 2005

See? See? I'm not the only one who likes Kid Rock around here!!!!
Love Kid Rock - I know he is cheesy and all but damn - that boy can rock and he puts on a helluva show - anytime I can have a three hour concert with reserved seats and be on my feet dancing the whole time - yeah one helluva show

i dont even know where to start. ive been to so many life - altering shows... here are some off the top of my head:
bob dylan - PA on tussey mountain 95ish? (not sure what year) dave matthews and tim reynolds - radio city - this year radiohead - bonnaroo 06 radiohead - Tibetan freedom concert underworld - everytime ive seen them in san francisco the roots and J5 in SF circa 03ish
Ashamadly little concert history, but I'm gonna do it once and for all, rank the few shows I've seen (worth noting) by personal preference:
1. Nine Inch Nails - Atlanta, Ga October 2005 2. Tortoise - Bonnaroo 07 3. Aerosmith - Raleigh, NC sometime in early '06 (I know this band's not popular on here, but the show they played consisted or 85% material from '73-'78, fantastic show.) 4. Beck - Bonnaroo 06 5. Ornette Coleman- Bonnaroo 07 6. Death From Above 1979 - Atlanta October 06 7. Alice In Chains - Myrtle Beach sometime late 06 (New singer did a good job, and the crowd was insanely pumped, great atmosphere.) 8. Tool - Bonnaroo 07 9. Radiohead - Bonnaroo 06 10. Flaming Lips - Bonnaroo 07
What becca said.... don't know where to start, but I'll try...
1) Pink Floyd- Dudley Field 1994 2) The Black Crowes- Jackson Hall 1991? 3) Radiohead- Atlanta 2005 4) Tool- 328 Performance Hall(RIP) May 21,1994 (My 20th birthday ;D) 5) Phish- Deer Creek 8/10/97 (First Phish show)
Honorable mentions:
My Morning Jacket- 11/06 Ryman Auditorium (One of the truly GREAT places in America to see a show) Phish- Murphy Center 1998 (Best Phish show for me) Rage Against the Machine- Municipal Auditorium 1999 6 Bonnaroo's

Hmm.... Here's my top 5, not necessarily in any order but I'm trying.
1) Eric Claption and Robert Cray Band - John Paul Jones Arena, 2007 2) Flaming Lips - Bonnaroo 07 3) Incubus - Roanoke Civic Center (whatever year their Morning View tour was... 2001?) 4) The Decemberists, with My Brightest Diamond opening - The NorVa 2007 5) The Doobie Brothers - Roanoke Civic Center ...2002 maybe?
There's no way that's actually accurate... but I tried. they're all some good ones. I haven't seen DMB with Toots & the Maytals yet, which will be on August 11th, and I'm sure that'll place somewhere on the list as well.
edit: aww hell... I forgot about Ryan Adams at the House of Blues in 2005. That should be on there as well.
#1 Pink Floyd, Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour 1986 (I think), Mile High Stadium in Denver. I was a sophomore in high school, blew my freaking mind man! #2 U2, Joshua Tree tour, McNichols Arena, Denver (I think 1985) #3 Morrissey, Bona Drag tour, 1991, San Diego Sports Arena #4 Disco Biscuits,May, 2006, 9:30 Club Washington DC
I am not including The Grateful Dead, Phish, or String Cheese shows, as there are too many to decide, and I just can't make those real decisions.

There seems to be a bit a trend emerging. Does anyone who saw Pink Floyd in '94 not rank it among their best?
I noticed that too, but you were there... how could they not
I walked 2 miles in a February blizzard (or, right after the blizzard actually)to get those tickets for a July concert--- I would have walked 200 if I had too... hell, 2000 It was very communal, for everyone on that line did pretty much the same thing that morning

No, pretty much flat and straight the whole way, and I had some descent snowboots and a huge puffy warm jacket. My car was plowed in behind a mountain of snow, and there was no time to attempt to dig it out, so I just set out down the semi-plowed road to get my hands on the greatest (non-roo) ticket I have ever purchased... cars were stuck everywhere on the way though, so I'm glad I didn't even attempt to use my car
Hey, does anyone remember that time gone by when we all used to actually go and wait on line for hot rockin' tickets... set the alarm for 5AM, get there a few hours early, pick up a coffee and an egg sandwich, and chill out listening to tunes on a line with a bunch of diehards just like yourself... i miss those days. I think about that every time I am sitting at a computer clicking refresh on ticketmaster online until i get through... SO LAME. We used to have to be dedicated to get hot rockin' tix. Now i get to compete with thousands of idiots who would never in their life show that kind of dedication for a band, and those idiots all get better seats, i'm sure

Oh yeah, I remember those days. I remember buying my Pink Floyd tickets. I believe it was February also, but must have been a different weekend because there wasn't any snow. My friend and I showed up at the mall at 6am and there were already a lot of people there, but it turned out that most of them were there for Grateful Dead tickets that went on sale an hour before the Floyd tickets. Interesting crowd to be gathered outside a suburban New Jersey mall early on a Saturday morning in the middle of the winter. It was worth it. We ended up with seats almost dead center of the field right next to the sound stage/lighting platform/mirrored ball.
^^^^and people think I cam crazy for getting up at 4 a.ma. to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. They just don't understand that I have trained to do it all my life by waiting for concert tickets
The only shopping that ever should require waking up at 4 am is for concert tickets.
ahhh but you are a young single guy with no kids to shop for
i'll agree with both you guys... the sales are just too damn good after thanksgiving to pass up. I don't go anymore, but i send my wife on the scavenger hunt then join them around 9am when the shelfs are bare and i help carry gifts back to the car!
