I'm going to see the Disco Biscuits with some friends in the next month, and they are playing twice within a reasonable distance from us and we can't decide which show to attend (both would be sweet, but financially unreasonable...)
So, option 1... Toad's Place in Richmond option 2... Rams Head in Baltimore.
anyone ever been to either these places? I've never been to them, but heard good things about both of them. I'm interested in going to the Toad's Place, but my friend who's driving claims Rams Head is an unbelievable place to see shows, but it would mean an extra 3 hours driving round trip....
also, if anyone happens to be going to either of these shows let me know too.
Ram's Head is actually in Baltimore, so don't know if that is too far of a trek.
If you have been to 9:30 in DC it's a similar concept - large cement box with a few balconies (actually more balconies than 9:30). General admission.
I don't think the sound is the best there, but it's not atrocious.
Stage is normal size and height, plenty of room to get up front, sound booth is in the center of the room farther back so you can stand on either sides, in front, or if you're behind your sight is obstructed. However behind that is like maybe 10' and the tee-shirt stand.
To the left of the stage is the bar (also square so can be on any side) but when you get over there, you can hardly see the stage, but the sound is still okay.
Two floors of balconies, some with concrete steps for seating.
The Rams Head restaurant is attached so you can eat beforehand either downstairs and then go right in, or check in, go to the 3rd floor to eat and rush right out for the show. Rams Head is in the middle of Power Plant live - a huge club scene for the 18-24 year olds but inside Rams Head is clean, the staff is cool, they get a good roster of respectable groups and local favorites.
Gosh, i hope that helps. Sometimes it's really empty there which is awesome - I saw Susan Tedeschi there twice and once got to meet her and chat with her (and the opening act Jackie Greene) and the second time since she toured with Derek trucks it was more packed, but she was still able to interact with some of the crowd. Was able to meet Rocco deLuca there... so it's not scary packed. Not a bunch of jerks and pushy people there - have always found the crowd is realitvely there for the music and are respectful.
Parking is in garages near by - but close by and pretty safe for it being Baltimore.
