Jack White has cast doubt over whether his band, The White Stripes, will ever play live again.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the guitarist/singer explained that any decision about touring again would be up to drummer Meg White after the the duo cancelled all their 2007 gigs as after the drummer suffered from acute anxiety.
"I don't know," he said, when asked whether the band's current hiatus would ever come to an end. "I guess it's up to Meg. The Beatles did it [quite touring but continued as a band]. I'm joking, but if we didn't ever tour again it wouldn't matter to me."
He added: "There are so many different aspects to being creative that it doesn't matter if one component is changed. It's been changing all the time since the band started.
"If something [touring] isn't working for you and it's detrimental to you, then you have to figure out a new way to attack it, a new way to look at it. I think that's what Meg's doing."

Meg just HAS to get over this anxiety thingy.....more Xanax...that's all she needs..... ;D
yes please, lots more Xanax... come on Meg, hey yeah, they are SweetTarts, you like SweetTarts...
In the long run, Jack won't have trouble finding another place to work... hell he already moonlights in 27 other places, but Meg, you two are a great team, you give him the perfect forum to just be himself. Alone, I don't think he could pull that off, no one to reign him in a little, you know, at those moments, Meg evens Jack, keeps him focused, his metronome... and the idea of Jack's day job as part of another team full time? Well, that just sounds like trouble to me, in the long run if not the short... Long Live the White Stripes, is all I hope I get to say for the rest of my life... LIVEWHITESTRIPES
at least I saw them 3 times, one at Roo ... but I'd see them 300 more just the same
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

we saw them three times last summer (nashville small venue, bonnaroo and birmingham at the sloss)... i've never seen a live show that compares... jack goes OFF, every time... hopefully we will get to see them again, but then i would be content w/jack showing up at bonnaroo to jam w/beck or really anyone else for that matter...
on a side note, we met meg and got a photo w/her at the nashville show... she was really sweet and down to earth...
I think Jack is going to get into some solo stuff.... Think Johnny Cash meets Bob Dylan...
If you think about it, it is amazing to me they made it this long. I mean, it HAS to be hard touring with your ex that is now a father of 2 and married to a super model....
Poor Meg... It really sucks. I have been a "Candy Cane Child" since the beginning. I think poor Meg has had all she can stand.
They may keep recording, but I really don't think they will hit the road again...
And I'm going to go ahead and throw this out there, they're not that good live.. Yes, shockingly it's true, at least IMO. His voice is much like Bob Dylans, he doesn't give a F about trying to sing the songs he just shouts them or jazzes them up. Even in their early years he'd do this. I don't know. I think the not touring just making albums wouldn't hurt my feelings, their albums are amazing. i'll always buy them and support them but to me their live show isn't all it's made out to be. Anyways. peace. Hope I don't lose Karma for having an opinion lol.

Damn. I was afraid of something like this... The White Stripes are probably my favorite band still making music, and yet I've never seen them in concert. Something would always come up - I was broke, or had no one to go with, or didn't know they were coming until the show sold out, etc. Last time they came to Boston, I was overseas. Go figure.
