You're in for a treat. The Tabernacle is my second favorite venue (behind the Ryman Auditorium.) In addition to seeing the last Mars Volta show at The Tabernacle in '05, I was just there for Ween last month.
They have gotten a lot crazier about "no smoking" stuff, going as far as saying no smoking is allowed in the main performance area. Signs everywhere.
That said, once the show started, the smell of greenery was EVERYWHERE. Just be discreet and the bouncers won't be able to get everyone. I did hear about people being thrown out, but where I was standing, down in the thick of the crowd on the floor, everyone around me was smoking and nobody got caught.
Just be discreet, as always. It's going to be one hell of a show. I'm going to Atlanta, and then back to Columbus for the make-up show that they cancelled in January.

Hot damn.
the tabernacle is my favorite venue. i have been there 9 or 10 times. including tmv in 05. i think the smoking thing may have just been for that ween show. i don't remember any non smoking policy ever, but then again, i don't smoke. the last time i was there was in nov. for mute math.

I've only been to the 'Tabernacle once, for the FLips in '06, after I quit smoking cigarettes. Don't remember for sure if people were smoking, as I was on Tequila. I do know that at Variety Playhouse, where I have seen many shows, you have to go outside to smoke.

i would have been there for that one, but i was getting married.
They have more shows that are not added on the first page of this thread. Austin and NOLA are two of them I believe. I just bought my tickets for the NOLA show at the HOB today, should be most amusing.
so, we drove to Columbus, again. We even check The Mars Volta's web page on the ride up, after checking it before we leave.
When we arrive in Columbus 4 1/2 hours later, we find ourselves in the same situation.. the show's been fvcking canceled. AGAIN! Who the fvck cancels a make up date? Why book a show in a town you have no love for?
Post the cancelation message at 7:30?
Thanks...the doors open at 7.....
fvck you TMV.
Looks like i won't be catching them this tour. I am NOT going to drive up to Columbus again anytime soon.

Wow, that blows, if i were still in OH i'd be furious. This actually works out well for me though, since I didn't unload my ticket before the show, and now can get my money back.
Wow, these guys are AMAZING musicians! just saw them in st. paul, played 2 and a half hours with no breaks in the music, absolutely killer! I hated to hear about the ohio mayhem, but really, if they do play again I think it would be worth it to go, it was one of the best shows I have seen without a doubt! Without question the best drumming i have ever seen.
Yeah, I can't stress enough how amazing they've been this most recent leg of the tour... around the board, people are saying that this is the best US tour they've done... ever.
They are quite the assholes, though, but I don't care.... just so long as they don't screw me over directly (as they have some of you, to which I understand and agree to your feelings) or stop making mind blowing/numbing music, I'm gonna always be there as a fan.
