So good ole' Art is comin to my hometown for a show... Tickets are kinda pricey, but not too bad. I'm wondering if any of you have seen his solo stuff in somewhat recent years and if it would be worth the ticket price?
I love love love Simon & Garfunkel, so I really wanna see him since he'll be so close, but ticket prices are a little high ($40ish) so I wanna make sure he's still got his talent and charisma. Any feedback is welcome, and likely rewarded with karma

I've never seen him solo (although I did catch the S&G reunion in '03), but I'm really not sure why anyone would want to see him live. I will say that he's still got quite a voice, and he's a pretty good interpreter of other people's songs, but he's never been a great showman and I find his catalogue very boring. Also, if you're hoping for S&G I wouldn't expect him to pull out any of those songs, since they are nearly all by Paul.
And speaking of, if Paul ever comes to town you should definitely see him!
He puts on a good show. He'll play some S & G stuff and some of his solo stuff (which is actually really good). Is it an orchestra show? When he plays with the orchestra it's cool because he'd probably do a song called "Skywriter" which was written for him by Jimmy Webb, arguably one of the best songwriters ever. Sometimes Art's son comes along too and sings, and he's got a good little voice.
Either way, though, you'd probably enjoy it.

If that show was here, it'd probably be at Carnegie Hall or something and be more like $100... and that would probably be up and in the back ... so, from this jaded NY'er's perspective, $40 is a pretty much quite a bargain

Wouldn't surprise me... but little ol' uncultured Roanoke is also the same city that couldn't even sell out a BB King show at $20 a pop in a relatively small venue...
And just to let everyone know, I actually don't think I'm gonna make it to this anymore. I mentioned it to a friend and they cracked down and told me that they are buying me tickets to a show in Charlottesville that weekend for my birthday... so free show w/ a friend definitely beats a $40 ticket potentially by myself any day of the week
