Just wanted to let anyone in the NY state area know (or anyone willing to take a weekend vacation) that Ithaca, NY has an excellent weekend of concerts in a few days.
Thursday (Feb 28th) - Medeski Martin and Wood at Ithaca State Theatre Friday (Feb 29th) - Benevento/Russo Duo at Castaways Saturday (March 1st) - Keller Williams (WMDS) at Ithaca State Theatre
MMW and Keller are like 20 bucks a pop (If you are really feeling cheap I can by them for you, my school ID knocks them down to $15). The State Theatre is a great venue, not too big, great acoustics.
B/R Duo is $15 and the place they are playing is an absolute dive. It doesn't hold more than 75 people, I can't believe they're playing such a small venue (if you can call it a venue). Anyway, last time I checked tix were still on sale for all of these shows. If your in the area it's worth the trip down, stay a night in the Holiday Inn or something, it's not too expensive and it's literally a block from the State Theatre (and like a 5 minute drive to Castaways).
I'll be at the MMW show. Not real interested in Keller. Didn't realize the Duo was playing, I'll have to think about that one. Real excited to hear all this new material at the MMW show.
haha, im an idiot i didnt even realize that, i was confusing it with the jersey show last sunday. ha. What i would really like to know is if they play this kinda dubbed out tropical jam and how its shaping up cause it was def my personal highlight of saturdays show
I put a little review up in the "any good shows lately" thread. I honestly don't remember any tropical or dub sounding jams. It seemed like everything they played that wasn't funky could have been out of a silent horror film or something. I'm hoping a recording shows up on etree, I'd really like to hear the show again. Maybe I missed the tropical jam or maybe thats just something they went off on at the show you saw.
