Does anyone know how to get around Live Nation's convenience charge/thievery scheme? I was planning on going to the R.E.M. show here in Raleigh, and lawn tix are $29. I was expecting $10 tops in service fees, but it turns out it's a $20 fee, which I'm just not paying. Does anyone know other outlets, other than craigslist or ebay, to get around this scam?
Start your own local concert promotion company. Grow your influence over venue booking over years. Negotiate ways for local venues and national club promoters to limit fees, perhaps by adding sponsors to the tours.

can you go pick up your ticket at a ticket outlet? maybe that'll cut down the cost.
the best way, I know of, is to get on the presale for the band you wanna see. Buy straight from the band. No middle man. No fees. But that won't really help you in this situation.
i would love to take a look at ticketmaster/ticketweb and all those re-sale companies' books just to see exactly how much of the additional fees are covering expenses and how much are pure monopolistic profit.

I don't think that will change the price by much, if at all. Ticketbastard even charges a "convenience fee" if you get your tickets at the box office the day of a show.

$10 Cypress Hill tix had a $10 fee, no box office at the venue $21 Allmans/Rat Dog last summer came to $40 and change and had some $6.50 parking convenience fee bullcrap tacked on (yet we took the train) ARRRRRGH, this topic makes me SO MAD

I went to go see Keller around Christmas it was 19 dollar ticket with 12 in fees, but a local indie record store had them for face value. Try calling your local small music stores. As it has turned out I can get almost any good ticket in Nashvegas this way.

This is why I'm glad Bonnaroo does their own processing. The fees that they add on top of the ticket price are bad enough. But if Superfly handed it off to Ticketmaster or Clear Channel, er I mean Live Nation, we would be raped like the folks who go to Coachella, which uses TicketMaster.
Ticketmaster's Fee Structure for Coachella:
22.20 convenience charge for ticket 5.35 convenience charge for camping 12.00 building facility charge 18.50 for UPS second day
39.35 total in Ticketmaster fees per ticket +18.50 per shipment
vs 22.95 in fees and + 10.00 per shipment UPS second day from Bonnaroo.
well, you should still to that rem show - if only because ill be there
in boston, you can go to this one venue that sells tickets for all the other ticketmaster venues in town - if you are there, there are no fees. otherwise, you get fucked as we all know.
you know whats really sad, is that i bought live nation stock. more for thier recent business moves of signing artists. its gone up a buck. i wonder if i can buy apartheid and blood diamond stock too? oh well, at least i made back some of the fees ive paid.
i havent figured out why its free to have tickets mailed and costs like $3 to print your own. (i hate printed tickets...)

The one thing I do like about Bonnaroo's fees though, is that they go legit places. Plus some of it goes to charity, and I really like that.
Good lord, when I went to Ultra, there were $40 in fees. It didn't say where ANY of the fees went, and then on top of that you had to choose 2nd day air as your option...there was no other option for shipping...my $129 ticket came out to $172 in the end!

oh well, at least i made back some of the fees ive paid.
