Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Bonnaroo absolutely allows audio taping. There are stipulations on your rig, but not much. Almost all artists that play are OK with being taped, only occationally does one (James Brown, Nickel Creek) specifically say they do not want recordings to be made or shared.
And we always need more tapers, so if you are one, then more power to ya!

Thanks Steve! I know that PJ encourages taping both audio and video, but wasn't sure how Bonnaroo would comply with that. I'm going to try and take my camcorder in, but if they tell me it's not allowed I guess I can run back to camp and secure it quickly.

My Canon A710 powershot camera can record an hour of video if I feel like holding it up that long. The high quality (640 x 480) looks really good, but it eats up memory, the 320 x 240 is just fine though about 100 megs every 5 minutes. Sony's seem to have the best audio for cameras, but my Canon sounds good as long as there isnt mega bass, it cant handle it. The zoom is also really good, but it doesnt auto focus while recording. I bring a bunch of memory cards and my laptop to upload the photos i take everyday. When I was front row for Police the security guy said no video, but I recorded a few songs anyways. Other than that I had no problems recording video. I have a really good collection of videos from concerts last year on youtube in the link below.

Lots of people seem to like watching concert videos on youtube. Quality isnt always the best, but its cool to be able to see what happened. I just make sure to record complete songs. I would have never had a clue that Tom Morello played his Tool solo with his teeth or answered a phone in the middle of it, had I not seen it on youtube. I will be recording lots of videos, and people will watch them.

I have a small Canon camcorder, I might try to take it to a few shows. I also have a mini disc recorder and a pair of great mics, but I have no idea how I would go about getting the audio from a mini disc onto my computer.
We use this Zoom H4 for our field recording and interviews. It has some nice on board stereo condenser mics which can record in WAV or MP3 resolution. I love this thing... Our Southern correspondents are also using the same recorder. For interviews, we use the XLR inputs for dynamic mics. Sounds MUCH better when doing interviews.
i have a flipvideo...it captures up to 60 min of good quality film and has great sound. it looks just like a digital camera. i took it into umphreys the other day when they didn't allow video recording. the guy grabbed and thought it was a cheap camera.

It uses film? ???
it probably captures to MP4. Not really suitable for DVD authoring or anything....

Looks like a nice little gadget. I hope you grab some videos at 'roo!
I was chuckling to myself, though, over the photos you included. Clearly they want to pass it off as a Mac product. The design, the style of presentation, and the last one it's attached to a MacBook. Heh.
some bands cry when their fans get free recordings some have gone as far as lawsuits against said fans. I'm sure it will depend on the artist, and their personal level of greed.

Yeah, man. Seriously, f*ck those artists and their rights! I mean, if people want to record their shows, then sell them elsewhere for profit, what's the big deal?
...Seriously. Most bands that have a problem with taping feel this way due to the proliferation of cheaply made bootlegs that are often sold without their permission. And quite frankly, I think that's their perogative. Way too many "fans" have an entitlement issue and take advantage.
But on a serious note, EVERY band at Bonnaroo allows taping, at least for the time they are performing at the festival. It's the festival's policy, so there isn't anything the individual band can do (unless, I suppose they were to raise a ruckus from the stage).
bands have shut down people with stands in the past and will do so this year.
Mars Volta did it in '05 I was told. Or maybe that was Vegoose. Someone also floated a rumor that Radiohead shut people down.
Yeah, didn't happen. There were multiple people taping Mars Volta (though nothing great came out of there - I think all the people who knew what they were doing were over at Galactic), and there was a HUGE taper's section for Radiohead. I'd say Radiohead had more tapers than any other show in 2006.
yeah, I just have the MBHO source which was taped from way far back and a decent FoB that is unfortunately severely cut
