Trey is in this months Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone: Who do you think should headline Bonnaroo in 2007?
Trey: TOOL! I saw them here in New York at a small theater, and I loved them. They were so loud. They're the most psychedelic band going. The funny thing is, with their odd time signatures and patterns , they sound kinda like Phish.
He also said he would like Phish to get back together and said they all 4 recently barbecued at his place.
Finally someone agrees with me that Tool would be awesome at Bonnaroo Like he said it's about the music. And I think the music of Tool would be an amazing fit there.

He also said that his dream supergroup would be him, Maynard James Keenan(from Tool), Flea(from Chili Peppers) on Bass, and Abe Laboriel Jr.(from Paul Mccartneys band) on drums.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
I brought this up on Bonnaroo's myspace page - just a topic, bringing the news.
I was attacked. They acted like I was telling them that Tool was coming to Bonnaroo because Trey said so, and that I was a "tool" for being a Tool fan, even though I never said I was - even though I am.
I felt like a burning witch. Those chodes couldn't hold an intelligent conversation if it were glued to their hands.
I think Tool would be a good late-night fit, as someone said in another thread, but not a headliner. As unfortunate as it may be, I think alot of the "jam band masses" would be upset with them taking a headlining spot. If they were late night then those people not into them, could go see someone else. Maybe kinda like they did with Primus a couple years ago. Put them on the second stage and everyone would be happy. It sucks that some people won't give them a chance cause they're too "hardcore."
I think thatd actually be sweet, but i dont know if theres enough metal bands that fit into bonnaroo to fill a tent for the whole weekend.
we could start a wish-list though....
Clutch (would fit good, even without a metal tent) Mastodon High on Fire Corrosion of Conformity Down
......wait a gosh darn minute, are we really having a conversation about a "metal tent" at Bonnaroo?
I was not a metal guy at all 6 months ago, but High on Fire was frickin awesome at Intonation and I picked up the Mastodon album and think its pretty great. At this point I think anything that is good live could work at Bonnaroo.

Talk of metal and no Dillinger Escape Plan, Fantômas or Opeth? I think any of those, along with many already mentioned, would bring some well-needed fresh blood to 'roo.
edit: Oh yeah, or perhaps some late night Sunn O))) or Boris.

Finally someone else thinks Clutch would be good at roo! I have been saying this for a while. They are so diversified in sound and the recent addition of a Hammond B3 to the band makes it that much sweeter. Also, I think Tool would be fkin amazing at Roo....and THE D!!!

ok, my 'metal tent' comment was kind of a joke. but i do think they could have some of these acts there, maybe have them play during a certain timeslot at a specific tent back to back...
btw - i am glad that bands like Mastodon are getting a lot of press now...i mean, bands like them will never be widely accepted but since i had been reading so much about them i picked up their last 2 albums and am really enjoying them.
I agree w/ most of you I don't mind seeing Tool at Bonnaroo I've been a fan of them for a while now. I went to their 2001 tour and loved it musically they do jam on a song for a while compared to modern day artist. Hopefully they won't be set as a headliner and if they are oh well I'll deal w/ it.

Then why didn't they do that with Radiohead. Because if Tool cant please the "jam base" then Radiohead sure as hell cant, yet they were the headliners this year. If Tool plays, which I bet they do, they'll be headlining Saturday night.

Radiohead has quite a bit larger fanbase than Tool.

Yes, but the point was made that their sound is (arguably) more distant from jam music than Tool. Radiohead played a 2 1/2 hour show with basically no trace of improvisation. It absolutely rocked and the masses loved it, but it was very far removed from jam music.
