To set some background....I was a big fan of SOAD early on....their first cd was definitely my favorite, and I really liked Toxicity, but with each ensuing release I cared less and less. I did notice that along with this trend was an increase of songs written and sung by the guitarist, Daron Malakian, so I've been hopeful that Serj's solo would be an improvement.
While I was a little underwhelmed with the first single, "Empty Walls", I picked up the album yesterday and I love it on first listen! Lots of varied styles as you'd expect and this time he goes all the way with his social/political commentary instead of just touching on it with a few songs per album as with SOAD. I know some people viewed those past songs as being heavy handed, and I'm sure you could look at these in that way too, but I like most of what he has to say and "The Unthinking Majority" is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time.
We'll see how it stands up over repeated listens, but there's of course a lot going on so I'm not too worried about that. Good stuff.
deathreau, I share the same "SOAD History", if you will. Was absolutely obsessed with them from the first album, but started to lose interest when "Steal This Album" came out. Still like them, but not fanatic like I used to be. I do like Serj's album though, I had it on my iPod when I was in Ghana for a month last Nov-Dec and I listened to it a lot over there, so it'll always remind me of that now =)

I saw him live on Friday, what a crazy guy haha, do you guys no why the band is his first name instead of the rest of the bands name? I would tell you guys but it would get censored by the site. Look it up though its pretty funny.
