Released a couple of weeks ago, this has been atop my playlist since i picked it up. If you like THE BAND, and particularly, if you like the voice of Levon Helm, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Levon has almost completely recovered from throat cancer and is belting out lyrics just like it was 1974-well almost. I'd say his voice is 95% there. And that has made me really happy !
A collection of mostly traditionals, this album caters to lovers of acoustic music rooted in the Americana defining phrasing of The Band. Also a nifty cover of Steve Earle's "The Mountain". Great harmonies thoughout. Get some !

I had high hopes for this one, got it yesterday, and was seriously disappointed. It could have been so great with a good producer behind it, but the arrangements make most of the songs are unmemorable.
I am very glad to have Levon back with his singing voice in tact. So perhaps my opinion is tempered largely with that feeling.
But for me, the heart is there, and most numbers are traditionals, so arrangement matters very little. Every # sounds like it could be the Band, so that's enough arrangement for me. Perhaps it will grow on ya. If not, I'll buy you a beer at the roo to make up for it !!
