Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The problem with that is, I don't like the lineup of the other fests. Aside from the past couple of years at Bonnaroo, I didnt like those lineups either. I think Allgood is awful (aside from a few bands) and I hate the crowd that goes there. The good thing about Bonnaroo is you get diversity. At least you do now. Bonaroo is a fest free to think outside the box and have whatever musical acts they want. "Commercialization" is one thing that shall be argued upon. What makes GWAR more "commercial" than The Dead or Phish or whoever? They're not at all. How often do you see a guy wearing a shirt with the Grateful Dead name smeared all over it? Or The skull, or the bears? Or the stickers on a car? Or anything else like that? All the time. When do you see guys with a Gwar shirt? Or stickers? Its rare, but you can find them once in a while. Okay, when was the last time Gwar played a show that cost $40+? How much is it for a Bob or Phil or Trey or Panic or SCI or any of those bands show? I'll tell ya, a heck of a lot more than a GWAR show.
And so on. Gwar isnt nearly as "commercial" as half of the bands that half been on Bonnaroo.
And I have to go back to something and say...Korn? Who ever said anything about Korn? I'm pretty sure that no one would want Korn at Bonnaroo. Please never compare Gwar or Incubus to Korn again.
I'm not sure how Incubus fits in here anyway. I think theyre a perfect fit for Bonnaroo. Its not like theyre a grindcore band. They're Incubus.
Maybe I'm the only one around here who wouldnt like to see the same 10-15 jam bands playing every year. I'd prefer a festival that caters to the MUSIC fan. not the JAM BAND fan. And a band being big or commercial doesnt make them bad, just as much a band being big doesnt make them good. Chill out and listen. You might find something you like aside from the same old jam bands.
well you have to understand where these people are coming from. this started at as a jam band fest. so i can definitely see why those that only care for that aspect of it could be upset. but that's fine, like the guy says there are plenty of other fests for those people to go to. personally i like roo the way it is now. there are still some jam bands, there are lots of bands that would never see together anywhere else and then they also have the big name headliners. it is a very diverse fest now. diversitiy even includes the mainstream. i can also see their fear that it will go even more in that direction. i hope it doesn't. i don't want it to become a total mainstream fest and i don't believe it will. just imagine though, if there a fest that you went to that was all the type of music/people that you like and then they started adding more and more jam bands. you would be complaining just like these people are.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I don't necesarily agree with it. I don't belive that "mainstream" means bad. Or that it means good. Good music is good music, beit accepted in the mainstream or not. And the point is, its not like they're just adding one type of musical artist. They see that not everyone just wants to see another jam band festival. Superfly has added many different types. Imagine this year without the likes or Ornette Coleman, Gogol Bordello, Manu Chao, The Black Keys, Aesop Rock, Regina Spektor, Sasha & Digweed, etc. All of that diversity in the lineup isnt necessarily making it more mainstream (who from the mainsream has even heard of Manu Chao or Gogol Bordello anyway?) Just making the Fest appeal to a broader range of music fans, rather than the same jam band fans that already have 10KL, All Good, Wakarusa, Gathering of the Vibes, High Sierra, Langerado, etc, etc.
Don't get me wrong. I like some jam bands...but...I don't JUST like jam bands.

Chandler et al... You guys are only wasting your breath (fingers?) trying to get through to the Dude. As far as he's concerned, the only music worth listening to are crunchy grooves and Jerry wannabes. Anything else is either too commercial, too obscure or brings a "bad vibe." He will continue to beat the dead horse that X band has ruined bonnaroo and All Good and 1KLF are better fests until he is blue in the face. No amount of rational argument or good music will convince him otherwise. My question is why is he stil here when hthese other fests are "proven" to be better in his opinion. If you think Roo sucks now than have fun at your jam wank-fests. If you are ready to hear quality music from outside your jam-band comfort bubble, come on back to Bonnaroo.
edit---And for the record, Dude, I met great people, saw plenty of smiling and sharing, got great mechandise at what I though were fair prices, experienced incredibly LAX security getting into centeroo, and saw at least a dozen great shows. Its all in yr attitude, buddy. And please quit talking about "hard-core roors" like you're their official spokesperson. I've been every year, and can say without hesitation that this was the best Roo yet. That's just my opinion, but please stick to expressing yours instead of creating a community of imaginary people who you believe agree with you. And stop bitching about the dust. There was a drought in Tenn. Water restrictions ment they couldn't wet down the roads as often as they would have liked. End of story. Not Superfly's fault.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
well i never meant to imply gwar was mainstream. although seeing them on mtv's viva la bam leads to believe they might have a bit of that. and it certainly shows they have a fanbase mostly made up of asshats. and just the disgusting and disrespectful nature of their show dosent fit with the peace, love, and happiness of festival land. im not against gwar. im not that into it. but i do own most of dave brockies solo stuff. so its no that i hate their music. or all music aside from jam. i love hip hop, reggae, bluegrass, etc... just as much as i love my jam. and the hardcore rooer statement was not meant to imply some upper class of rooers. i simply meant that you have to be pretty hardcore in your love of roo if your still putting up with all the hassels of roo for lackluster lineups. if you have been every year then you cant deny the way the crowd has changed. and this year was a huge leap in that department. it just wasnt roo this year. and im not the only person saying this. alot of people including some other inforooers got that vibe. and as far as the dust is concerned i will continue to complain about it. i think its bullshit that at 250 a ticket i have to breathe in enough dust to make me extremely ill for weeks. at those prices they can use dasani to wet the roads. or heres an idea. get rid of the dirt roads all together. pave them or atleast bring in rocks. it may be costly. but so are the tickets and i dont think it would cost that much anyhow. it seems better then making tens of thousands of people sick every year. and korn just seems the next logical step. it seems like superfly has some goal of hangin with coachella lineups and euro fest lineups. only god knows why. 08 is looking like incubus, pearl jam, and rage. throw in some chili peppers and some korn and its a meal i just cant stomach. but hey to each their own. if you like the new lineups, the new crowd, and roo cough then more power to ya. if roo would have started out as a festival that headlined radio bands i dont think any of us would care. but it started out as something special and it has been commercialized into a near atrocity now. take inforoo for example. its cluttered with who should play roo threads. which is normal. but what isnt normal is for the discussion to be about gwar, aerosmith, red hot chili peppers, incubus, rage, and pearl jam. you didnt see that until the recnet lineup changes created a new fanbase for roo and drove alot of the regulars to other fests. the change is obvious. and it dosent mean that these are bad people. or even that they have bad taste in music. it has just changed roo into something that i dont enjoy nearly as much as i used to.

I repeat. The dust was due to a drought. There was a water shortage in Tenn. They couldn't water the roads even if they wanted to. As for paving, I think that's 1st on the list of improvements they will make now that they own the land. They just didn't have time to do it this year.
as for the people: I don't think anything is really that different. w/ that many people, your gonna have all kinds. I repeat; I met no bad people, scam artists or undercover cops this year, and neither did anyone else I knew who went. However, I did by bunk merchandise in 2003, met violent, drunk asshat frat guys in 2004, got hassled at centeroo entry and almost had a gut steal my wife's perscription meds in 2006. I personally felt people were less friendly and inclined to share in 2004-2005. But never did I believe a fundamental shift occured, nor did I blame my experiences on the lineup.
Blaming the Tenn. drought and and resulting dust, or the fickalty of the black market on Bonnaroo is rediculous. and if you are so dissapointed with the lineup, why not go to the many other jam fests around. edit----I'll say it again; I felt this years lineup was the BEST Roo yet. The only thing I felt could have been better was the Police, but I still enjoyed them better than Panic. but that's just my opinion.

Incubus would be way more fitting than GWAR if you ask me, Incubus does have a lot of trippy and funky stuff they might whip out, especially from s.c.i.e.n.c.e

I agree 100%. And I have high hopes for next year
And seriously who is bringing up Korn? No one's mentioned or cares about Korn. Korn has no business doing anything but appealing to angst-ridden middle schoolers.

I like Korn and I'm not afraid to admit it. I am also not an angst-ridden middle schooler.
I'm all about diversity at 'Roo. I'm a metalhead above all else so the idea of GWAR, Opeth, etc, is tempting, but it just doesn't seem plausible - But who knows? I shudder at the thought of Korn there, though I really don't think that would ever, ever happen.
I saw GWAR a few weeks ago and it was an awesome show by the way. You'd know which people at 'Roo were at the stage where GWAR played, because they'd all be red/blue/purple

gwar would be fun but even if they were asked gwar would not play bonnaroo so we can all stop bitching about them, they have songs about killing hippies so i dont think they play a jam fest.
incubus would be funky if they played stuff from enjoy, fungus amongus, science but i dont want them to play cause they would only do it as a headliner
korn wouldnt play and nobody would want them to they havent done anything good since i was in the 8th grade

Seems to me that name calling is a tad bit childish. Maybe you should take your own advice..........
