Alright everyone, you know I like polls/games/silly questions - so here is your chance to give your 2 cents on the Bonnaroo 2008 lineup. This being the yay or nay series, you will give a yes or no response in the poll question and comment on your reasons for choosing your answer. The second act being hypothetically considered in this series is Aerosmith - you know them and may love them or hate them depending on what period of their career you are listening to; either way, you can't deny they've had incredible success for almost 40 years. Could they fill the Tom Petty/The Police niche of recent Bonnaroos? Their resume certainly gives The Police a run for their money.
The question is, should they play Bonnaroo 2008? Tell us why you think they should or should not, what stage you would like to see them on, how you think the crowd would react to them, how they might impact ticket sales, or anything else you think their prescence at Bonnaroo might do for the all-important "vibe".

Never really liked Aerosmith, and I don't even wanna chance hearing Angel at Bonnaroo, so no, thank you. Aerosmith is one of those bands that just doesn't need to play bonnaroo. They could headline any huge pop/industry music fest. They would be too out of place at a grassroots-type fest like Bonnaroo.

Well, coming from someone who LOVES the old Aerosmith ("Aerosmith" to "Draw The Line") and hates anything after 1977, I saw aerosmith in mid 05 I think. Incredible show, and about a good 80% of what they played was from the good era. So I'm going against the grain here:

These guys seem more suited to be headliners at a state fair than Bonnaroo, if they were playing, I would definitely take the year off and look for another festival.

If these guys play Bonnaroo, I would like them to play Dream On, and then walk off the stage. No encore or anything. Just Dream On. Maybe an extended version. But that's it.

oh no, you don't want it to be ruined the way roxanne was.

Please no Aerosmith! While them headlining wouldn't exactly keep me from going, it also wouldn't do anything towards making me want to go. Just off the top of my head I can think of at least 10 other artists I'd rather see that seem to fit the Petty/Police mold... Zepellin Reunion, AC/DC, U2, Paul McCartney, Springstein, David Bowie, R.E.M., Talking Heads, Stevie Wonder, The Kinks... and I'm sure there are at least 10 more I'm not thinking of right now, if not even more than that. While Aerosmith may have been interesting back in the day, over the years they have just gotten more and more bland blaND BLAND, at least for my taste
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

Same here... I like 'em, even got to meet Steven Tyler backstage one year (Boston Garden, New Years '89, IIRC), but I don't think their newer catalog really meshes well with 'Roo. Now, if they restricted themselves to their pre-'86 songs, I might be persuaded otherwise....
I dont hate Aerosmith, and dont care how "commercial" a headlining group is. Commercial doesnt mean bad. BUT I don't want to see Aerosmith in a slot where a very good band could be instead.

i'd love to hear sweet emotion, just because its in dazed and confused. but naaa, i think we need a short hiatus for older (reunion type) bands. i say give my morning jacket a headline spot. they actually deserve it.
I grew up loving Aerosmith and still love their older stuff. Saw them in '78 and they were so wasted they could hardly play. Saw them again in '90 after they dried out and they made the show a "No Alcohol" show. Nothing against them and if they were a headliner, it would be a good excuse to catch a nap for late nite (not an unusual event for me) but there are innumerable better band for Roo. So a BIG NO

This is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard! They were always kinda like a cheesier hybrid of The Stones and The NY Dolls to me. (and much worse than either) Yeah, they were a good band 30 years ago, but they sould-out to the MTV way of doing things years ago. An Aerosmith addition would be undistputable evidence that Roo has went mainstream, in my opinion.
I don't have a font big enough to say this properly, but....
NO!

get your wings was a killer album. and dude looks like a lady was my favorite song for a couple weeks back when i wasnt old enough to know any better. but other then that i dont have much nice to say. so i sure hope not. i would have said it was impossible 6 months ago but who knows now. i think them or the stones would be the final nail in the coffin for me. but i guess it dosent matter. ive already written roo off for everything excpet thursday, latenights, and sundays headliner. so bring on the chili peppers, incubus, the fake pumpkins, rage and aerosmith. just leave sunday alone!!!!

I think it is safe to say that Aerosmith would not be a welcome addition for most people attending Roo from this board. At least not the band as it stands now - and I agree with most of you, if they wouldn't play anything Run-DMC era and after then I might be interested. Thank you to all who can play along and not get too worked up - it is fun to hear what everyone thinks; no matter how crazy the idea (or thread) is .
