The way it's spelled now, it would be the same to say woo-hoo or nay... yay is like yippee.
If you're meaning the formal voting terms, it would be spelled y-e-a, not yay.

It's not that I'm a complete grammar nazi, I swear, I'm just wondering what the original intention was... I'm also wondering why I'm wondering so much.
