Rolling Stone reports today that Levon Helm from the Band will be releasing a solo album in the upcoming months entitled Dirt Farmer. I, for one, think that he would make a tremendous addition. Only wish we could get all of the fellas together...

Your thoughts?
Being that Richard Manuel and Rick Danko are both dead, and Robbie Robertson has made himself amply clear about not wanting anything to do with a reunion, I think ya may be wishin' for awhile...but I'm with you.
I saw Levon Helm play in a bluesy cover band a couple of years ago. Though he drums very well, and smiles alot, gone is that luxuriously velvety voice that framed much of the Band's music. Seems he has been the victim of throat cancer and rarely sings anymore.
Interested to hear "Dirt Farmer" though. Karma for that morsel !
Sure, I'd go see him. I saw The Band in '96. I don't really remember which of them were there. I do remember it being a pretty good show, with The Guess Who opening.

Yea, that's why I said "wish." I guess all we have left of "The Band" is a tremendous discography and "The Last Waltz." Was Danko even alive back in '96? I thought he committed suicide in '93.

On December 10, 1999 The Band lost another member when Rick Danko died in his sleep at age 56.
1992–1999 Jim Weider – guitar Rick Danko – bass, vocals Randy Ciarlante – bass, drums, vocals Levon Helm – drums, vocals Garth Hudson – keyboards, saxophone Richard Bell – keyboards
I didn't even think about him. I know someone who went to a private show of his at his home a couple years ago and said he was great. He jammed out with a few musicians throughout the night as well.
not only yes, but it would be one of the highlights of my weekend....I would love to see a Band reunion as much as the next guy but as this most likely isn't going to happen. I would definitely take Levon with what I'm sure would be a great group of backing players and maybe a few famous friends popping in to say hello.
Best yay or nay I've seen so far. A Levon Helm Ramble as a midnight show in one of those tents would be amazing. He has his voice back and I recently saw him at the Ryman Auditorium and it beat the shit out of anything I've ever seen at Bonnaroo (well not really it was slightly better than MMJ or Radiohead in 06). Emmylou Harris,John Hiatt, Leroy Parnell, Sam Bush Buddy Miller, Sheryl Crowe and some more people I can't remember came out and played with him throughout the night and it was just insane. Bonnaroo could add another notch in its belt of getting one of a kind performances with a Levon Helm apperance.........now if they could just make this happen, get Pearl Jam, and Jimmy Page w/ The Black Crowes as headliners, I'd actually go back!!

I think the The Band was at Woodstock'94, and I'm pretty sure Bob Weir was on vocals with them, and, I'm fairly certain that they were awesome... though I could be making all of this up, for some memories of that weekend seem to be, um, a bit on the, well... the hazy side of life Anyway, bottom line, I think Levon Helm would make a wonderful addition to Bonnaroo 2008.
