Sly & The Family Stone Return To NYC
On December 7, Sly & The Family Stone will return to New York City for the first time in over thirty years. The enigmatic Stone, has been a recluse for some time (and has issued conflicting accounts about the nature of his songwriting and recording since his last studio session for Warner Brothers in the early 80's). Following a swirl of rumors that he might make his first public appearance in well over a decade, a mohawked Stone turned up at the 2006 Grammys. A remastered version of Sly & the Family Stone's Greatest Hits disc came out this summer along with the band's back catalog, and the group recently performed a series of European dates (to mixed reviews and with varying amount of Sly Stone face time, although no one questions his groundbreaking, historic role in fusing funk, soul and psychedelic rock in the early 70s). B.B. King's will host two shows from Sly & the Family Stone on December 7, with tickets on sale this Friday.

^^^Holy Sh*t... I am friends with the sales manager at BB's... I wonder if this is too hot for her to get me on the guestlist... so far, nothing has been... I am so gonna ask!!! Fuckin' A, thanks for the tip Chef!!!
I just can't imagine how anyone who likes Sly & The Family Stone wouldn't have fun at a Deep Banana Blackout show. I used to see them a bunch when I was in school. They don't really tour anymore, but they play the Gathering of the Vibes almost every year, and they'll do a mini-tour or one-off show from time to time. Really, don't miss out on these shows.

Sly, really? I'm on the fence-- they seem like the kind of legendary band who might be past their prime. Remember how messed up Sly seemed on the Grammys a couple years back? lordrock, I'll wait for your report before I vote.

I do recall it was pretty messed up to put Sly on stage w/ Aerosmith. He took one look (and listen) to that sh!t and walked off-stage. I'd say he did the right thing. We'll see how these NYC shows go, but if he can keep on stage for more than 20 mins I'd say he could do Bonnaroo.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to let you guys know how they were after all...
The BB Kings owner (BB?) has closed the Sly guest list to anyone but himself. Apparently, this one actually is too hot... my friend said that her phone has been ringing non-stop since the show was announced this week and she has never seen anything like this in all of her years working there.
Tickets are $86, not an amount I am able to spend But... if they do more shows after this, my instincts say that Superfly will be all over it to get them this year

I loved Sly back in the day, but he looked really bad at the Grammys.
Sly sounded greatfor the 3 mins he was on stage. I honestly think he was just fed up with the whole Grammy thing, esp. the lousy special guests (Robert Randolph excluded, but he wasn't enough to stem the tide of suck), said "fuck this shit" and walked off. I think w/out all that bullshit he will do just fine at the NY show, and I hope he tours.

The key in this scenario is it's Sly AND the Family Stone. The Family Stone's been touring for years without Sly. It's just a matter of Sly getting up to speed with the rest of the gang.
