i saw him a few years ago when he was playing the entirety of SMILE and it was wonderful. the only thing that i didn't like was that the show sort of made me sad because he has to read his lyrics off of a computer screen. i felt really bad for him...

I think he's be a blast. Almost saw him a couple months ago promoting his new album That Lucky Old Sun, but it was too expensive. It wouldn't be the sort of show people talked about for years, but he's a living legend and that's enough.

I saw that SMiLE tour in 04. It was opening season of the city's new arts center, and I had tix in the 2nd row so I was about 15-20ft away from him the whole time. Amazing.
While there was no teleprompter, he did have a music stand... probably for the same purpose.
