wow...this really comes as a surprise to me...i've seen some footage of gilmour and was mildly impressed...i saw waters live two years ago and was blown away...he did all of 'dark side' which was stellar...and preceeded by a mix of the best of the best floyd tunes...all sounding as beautiful as the albums...
did you guys have bad experiences at roger's shows? or just favor gilmour? and for what reason? just curious...

I saw Floyd in 87 and 94 it was the greatest thing I've ever seen then saw Waters a few years ago it was a big let down. Plus I'm just a bigger fan of Gilmour's solo stuff but I'd be happy to see Waters again.

Sammy O - Someone around here said they saw the show in Virginia...If that's the show you're talking about then I totally agree. I've never been to a better concert than that...the crowd was absolutely wild...the crowd cheered louder than any outdoor concert I've ever heard.
Roger said "that's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" before the encore...it seemed like everyone brought a lighter that night because it looked like the stars in the sky
I can't imagine David being any better...besides, How you gonna top DSOTM in it's entirety???
i'll be honest...i have not seen gilmour or waters live. but i have seen both of their dvds and i just prefer gilmour over waters...i'm sorry to offend.
also i kind of always disliked waters for walking out on the band. he just seems really full of himself. that said, its not like i think he isnt talented or anything.

Honestly, IMO this debate is purely based on personal preference, you are either a fan of:
Waters: A (for the most part) "same everynight of the tour" kinda guy, but musically still is amazing and puts down one of the best live shows you could ever see.
Gilmour: A show known more for its improvisation, rarities (not necessarily the "hits"), and solo material. And for goddsake, its David Gilmour, he's amazing.
Me personally, I'm going with Roger, I've never seen Gilmour, but Roger puts on a amazing show, and I thinks its the best we're gonna ever get to Pink Floyd. Word. ;D
Gilmour. As a lover of all things guitar. Pity that he's the one standing in the way of a Floyd tour. Waters has said he's up for it, but Gilmour seems tired.
I saw Roger Waters play in Tampa, FL back in May, and it was one of the most amazing and spectacular things I've ever witnessed. I would love to see it again, but I'm gonna cast my vote for David Gilmour just because I would love to see that man play guitar in the flesh (no pun intended).

I've seen both live, roger solo, and david with the remaining band, and I thought Gilmour sounded way better, both playing and singing, but I would be elated if either were at roo.
I've never seen either live, but in my mind Pink Floyd was done when Roger left. I think any old guitar hack can play Pink Floyd licks while there's only one man who can write Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall etc.
Are there people who have heard "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" that don't think its amazing? Some of Roger's solo work ranges from "not very accesible" to "cheesy" (I love it all but Radio KAOS certainly has its flaws and Amused to Death is an acquired taste), but "Pros and Cons"? With Clapton? Gilmour has done anything on his own that compares to this? In my mind it stands up to all but the very best of the Pink Floyd catalog. For my money Roger Waters is a legend among legends and one of the greatest songwriters in rock and Gilmour is a decent guitar player who I lost some respect for when he went around playing Roger's songs as Pink Floyd against Roger's wishes.
That said, Gilmour's shows may well be better. I've never seen either (just a Roger Waters DVD where I didn't miss Gilmour or the rest of Floyd at all).
I can't really seperate myself from either. I genuinely think Roger has something wrong with him mentally that caused pink floyd's break up problems. I did ejoy On An Island alot though.

I saw Roger a few years ago when he did DSOTM, and it really was an incredible concert. But supposedly he's a big douchebag and he's anti-Israel while throwing a bunch of arab/hezbollah propaganda into the visual aspect of the show, so that kinda took away from it.
