2007 was the first year of my adult life where I wasn't working/earning more. After five years of having two jobs, my refunds just kept getting smaller.
I quit doing one job and started taking out the maximum student loans to compensate for it... but I certainly didn't think it would make this much of a difference. My refund this year is multiple times that of last year's.
If it's any consolation, I don't think I can spend any of my money on anything cool. Most of it is going towards my "get out of Wisconsin" fund this summer. Although I am extremely tempted to get a Wii.
Hey we still gotta pay the Feds. The state just milks the snowbirds and tourists for all they're worth, and cuts the people who actually live here a big break.
No state income tax here in TN either. But they make up for it by taxing EVERYTHING incl/food at 9.75% with a sales tax so it actually taxes the poor more.
I was one of those early filers, Got my refund check Feb 2, I think.
I did have to file my Mom's today. She only gets SSI and doesn't have to pay but I had to file so she gets her tax rebate. Of course, she lost all her tax papers so I just fudged the numbers. (any IRS agents out there, I retract that statement, and for the record, it is blatantly untrue.)
