Welp, Just got finished with the dry-run of my camp set-up. I sure do hope I'll have enough space for the 10x20!
It IS WAY TOO early for this.... I got my list together and was getting concerned that it wouldn't all fit in the Jeep. What's a guy to do? Yes, that's right, pack the Jeep, see if it fits or not. The second cooler may end up on the roof but other than that it all fits together like I won a game of tetris.
Anyway, I know the landgrab is a bit hectic so I got everything in order.... Coolers ready and easily accessible for inspection and the roof of the 10x20 in a bag marked #1 (as in, this bag first). From the word GO I had the roof layed out and put together in about 6 minutes. Space Claimed. Next: pop open a beer from the cooler (OK, I had a cold sixer in GLASS bottles, not cans in the cooler, but whatever). 1KW Generator on with one pull of the ripcord, radio on, lights available if necessary. Legs on the 10x20 next then the dome under the canopy. Checked the sleeping bag/air mattress for mildew, holes, etc. Then one problem I hadn't thought of: How do I attach these tapestries to the tent? Gotta solve that. Fired up the coleman stove, wiped the grime off the camping cookware, and opened another beer. Unrolled the carpet, broke out the chairs, and assembled the flagpole. Wow that's tall! Zip tie the pole to the tent and open another beer. Sat in the chair and said to myself... BONNAROOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Maybe I'll leave it set up for a day or two.... or at least until this beer buzz goes away
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

Haha...I think if I packed the entire car now as a trial, I'd get it all done and be like "screw it, let's just go now! Do we have enough energy bars to survive until June?"

Check it out...for attaching the tapestries, go to your local Ace or whatever, and ask for spring clamps. They look like this:
I think this is the two-inch version, which will expand up to two inches apart. They cost like $2.79 or something like that. Trust me, use these and your tapestries will not be going anywhere.

LoL I wish I was able to do all that on my own! A few months ago I attempted to put up my portable shower stall thing and I barely got that up (plus it was freezing out!) Now that the weather is warmer I might attmept to put up the canopy and tent
I got a new tent after the one my family had for 20 years finaly gave in. So I did the same yesterday. I pulled out my laptop sat at the tent and played radio bonnaroo
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
No, you should crank music until 4AM while dancing all around like a maniac... then wander around your neighborhood aimlessly, before finally passing out in the tent just around sunrise... THEN you should get up 4 hours later, crack a beer, and do it all over again! ;D ;D

That really would be a pretty good dry-run. Just to see what you're made of.

I bought a new canopy and set it up yesterday. I'll have to do a few more dry runs with packing the car and getting everything out to claim space quickly. but we're gonna have 4 cars going this year so we should be ok on space.
My crew asked me to go camping this weekend, which always makes me happy. I get to sleep in the new tent and really looking forward to the "dry run" so to speak. You ain't crazy. Just excited.
My wife got on my case saying 'why do you need a 10x20 for just YOU?' and you know, she's right... They say that officially you get a 10x10 space plus your car so I got a 10x10 canopy yesterday. Ah yes, much more reasonable....

No chance that tent was a "Hillary" tent? tan & green? My parents have one and though it weighs a ton compared to new tents it's still awesome for camping. I saw someone with one just like it at 'roo in 2006
and Sköldpadda, thanks for the spring clip recommendation, they look perfect
I set up my new tent this past weekend and man I can't wait to use it. It's a 9x7 which I thought was the same size as the one I borrowed last year, but it's way bigger.

This thread inspired me to do a dry-run of my own. Of course this is mostly just the stuff i have, missing a couple tents plus the chairs and whatever other furniture we will have. I bought the Coleman GeoSport 15x15 today for 50 bucks at the local Big Lots. It was pretty windy today and it seemed to hold up well. Ill make sure to stake and guy line it down at Roo tho. I AM WAY TOO EXCITED NOW!!!! 30 days only 30 days......

I'm doing the test run this weekend and have the Geosport, too. Haven't even taken it out of the bag yet. Tent should arrive this weekend (a totally snazzy Columbia Bugaboo). The main point of the exercise (beyond just seeing how it all fits and how to put it together) will be measuring what size shade tarps to hang from the Geosport. Knowing it's 15 x 15 is great, but since it isn't a square shade, I have no idea how wide each of the sides are!
I'm thinking about some serious velcro from Home Depot to secure the tarps and create something reusable. Anyone gone that route?

i actually attatched the tarp you see between my two canopies to the GeoSport. The legs are 10 feet apart, and each corner has a loop for guy lines that i used to zip-tie my tarp through the gromets.

I bought the same Coleman 15X15 at BigLots. It looks like it will work out well. Couldn't beat it for 50bucks.
if you have a new tent/gazebo you have never used i highly recomend doing a dry run just to make sure you know how to set it up at roo. I looked like a complete idiot trying to figure out my gazebo last year. Im sure it was entertaining for my neighbors.

The one problem I see with this set-up is the tarp in the middle seems like it will pool water. Water is very heavy. You don't want the whole thing to collapse and dump a pool full of water on your tent entrance.
When we do our dry run, we always spray the hose all over to simulate rain and see where we might have problems. I guess that is a wet run.

i had a geosport last year... use the guylines!! mine almost went in a windstorm @ roo, then it got destroyed at 10klf. someone else had one @ camp inforado, we were constantly holding it down in winds (and i think someone said they found it toppled over on some tents when no one was there). my only other problem with the geosport was that it wasn't as shady as an ez-up, the fabric is somewhat sheer.

My brother and I just got back this morning from a one night camping dry run, we got camp setup with relative ease considering the ground was not even close to being level.
We had a stroke of luck as it started to rain about 15minutes after we turned in for the night. I slept great and more importantly woke up to a tent that was still standing with no leaks. Mission accomplished!
The only thing we agreed that was needed was a table of some sort. Any recommendations?

The last time I was at Wal-Mart they had a folding table for sale back in the camping area. I think it measures about 3'X5'. Not sure how much it costs.
