hi im a doc who works in nashville with homeless individuals. i work with persons truly unable to work or function who live, literally, on the street (under bridges etc). recently a group of disabled persons lost their riverfront homes and campsites. there is actually an old ordinace which states that you can live on the riverfront. i was wondering about organizing something to collect sleeping bags and old tents for this population. this would be done through an established organization (you can get a tax form from them) and would go DIRECTLY to the homeless population (those who have issues and CANNOT WORK OR FUNCTION). i donated a tent and it went STRAIGHT to a needy person who cannot work due to a disability his tent was trashed recently (long corporate story). i was wondering how many rooers might have old tents or "gear" before i move forward???? thanks
i hope this doesnt offend anyone...im just checking things out first. nothing would go to me directly.

the need is huge here. a large company is trying to displace our disabled folks so that they can do something else here in town. if you do not live in nashville, please consider donating "gear" to your towns disabled homeless population. i assure you...some of them are very ill and so not able to work at all.
Sadly, it's huge in so many places. I've done a lot of volunteer work with the homeless and I understand that so many of them are simply not able to help themselves.
I work with the homeless here in M'boro and have donated most of my old gear to people here but I will look around and see if I have anything.
I will also look while at Roo. Sometimes people just leave their old gear when they depart. I have a truck and can make it a pont to try and collect anything that might still have some life in it.
