I feel like Roo is Missing the reggae acts this year. They need to add some more reggae acts to make it even. I would like to see Burning Spear added and some steel pulse would be nice too. Who would you like to see added (reggae acts)? Hey,hey, hey Burning Spear is open in june now that is crazy, but he isnt crazy. For steel pulse they are booked through the Roo. So bring us burning spear atleast.
maybe like or two more, but i'm thinking that a few of the cafe additions are some reggaeton, mon.
Dubconcious in the Troo Music Lounge last year was so great. Everyone working together to move the tables and chairs out of there. It was total solidarity, and i knew i was at the right place.
i would like a few more reggae artists, too. i thought that ziggy was really good last year and have grown to love him. i'm hoping that stephen delievers a good show this year. as for burning spear, i get to see him this weekend and am quite pumped! it would be cool to see him at roo too, though. and steel pulse (rally round the red gold black and green - would love to see them! they're playing at the jazz fest in new orleans, but i can't go, so i'm bummed out, but it's cool.
I am a huge reggae fan but I have very little in my collection form the last 10 years. I guess I'm kinda conservative in my love for Roots reggae (Boots- please don't confuse it with Reggaeton, totally different), what I listen to most are Black Uhuru, Culture, Gladiators, Dennis Bovell, Misty in Roots and Mikey Dread. Recent good stuff is out there, but it's rare - Roots Tonic (Matisyahu's backing band), Giant Panda GDS, Rhythm & Sound even Tim Armstrong.
I was lobbying for Mikey, but sadly he passed away a few months ago.
Don't underestimate Israel Vibration, I 'm looking forward to them more than Stephen. Orchestra Baobab wouldn't count as reggae but they will connect with that same muscle in your a$$ that can't keep still.

I gave you karma, phisherman, because I appreciate that instead of making a thread complaining about the supposed lack of reggae and insisting that more be added, you made a poll and asked your fellow Inforoosters for their feelings on the matter. It might not be a big deal, but it struck me as very refreshing.

Preach.
I just happened to walk by the lounge and had to stay. The music was awesome, and I looked up to see the tables not currently being danced on being passed over head. One of the best crowds at Roo. So many people, so many good vibes. One of my most pleasant surprises of last year.

I wouldn't mind one or two more. It's tough getting to see the one reggae act they book each year (on the stages) because of all the other acts playing.
