These are people who admited in a survey. The real drunk drivers are gonna say no because "man what if its my probation officer and he is just tricking me The answer is no I dont drink and drive."
Conversely, Wisconsinites are probably more likely to feel pride rather than shame in admitting it. As a TA from Ohio I once had remarked, "In Wisconsin, drunk driving is an Olympic sport."
And for the record - Madison is the smartest city, but that study didn't address states.
Doesn't surprise me that Utah has the lowest rate of drunk driving - they have some of the strictest alcohol laws in the country, and I'm pretty sure beer can't be more than 3.2% alcohol.
Funny that the state with the highest level of drunk driving is also home to what is supposedly the smartest city in the country.
Remember the upper Midwest states are frozen for 4 or 5 months a year. There's not a lot to do except drink. We live with temps varying from a record 61 below to 102 above. When your environment is full of extremes, you tend to act in an extreme way. Not that anything is an excuse for drinking and driving. It use to be my job to arrest these people. I've known quite a few officers that liked to put it down and get behind the wheel too. This is just a tough place to live sometimes, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Drink up everybody, it's suppose to snow today.

Well I'm from the state that has one of the lowest, KY.
Its a funny coincidence bc i have Two DUI's. Nothing I'm proud of, but I paid my due's. I'm sure I'm a part of KY's statistic, but as for the survey's. I had to take about 9 months worth of classes. Once a week for an hour and a half 20 dollars per class. Loss of license for a year, three days in jail, grant co, house arrest for a month, and a bunch of fines (for the second). and as for the first a month of classes tues/thurs for four hours 60 bucks per class. Loss of license for a month, then got the license where you could go to work and back. plus fines.
In the classes we watched movies and filled out anonymous surverys. Name was optional.
ADMITTED is the key word in that survey....no one from any Southern state is going to ADMIT they are drunk.... Holding your alcohol is a point of pride down here...LOL!
Otherwise "Hey Ya'll Watch This!!" wouldn't be some of the most popular final words spoken....
