I've done the drive the past two years and I'm usually so pumped to get there that I don't pay attention to any cool stuff to stop at. Except Sonic restaurants. We have the commercials all the time in Michigan, but we don't have a Sonic in Michigan. So we try to stop at one on the way there and the way home.
While driving thru kentucky if you have time check out the Natural Bridge State Park. We always went there for family reunions when I was a child and it's beautiful. Hike up the hill to the natural bridge and go thru the fat man's squeeze before going all the way to the top.
