yeah, u shouldnt have a problem finding a ride, people generally like giving rides to strangers at roo. I know i do in 04 we saw some kid holding a sign saying "I'm broke, alone and going to NYC" and we just let him hop in and while he was broke he had some banging corn and I still hang out with him occasionally to this day.

Rentals have gone up a lot this year. I have rented a car every year for roo and this year the prices seem to be a lot higher than they have been in the past. Unfortunately, finding something in northern NJ or NYC area seems a lot more expensive than the rest of the country.
