I'm not on myspace. Nothing against it, but none of my friends use it, so it's never had much appeal for me. However, with bands using it more and more these days, would getting an account and friending band be a good way to find out tour information when it happens? All I do now is check band websites occasionally, and as a result I miss a lot of shows I'd be interested in because I didn't check at the right time. Is there any notification system on myspace that would fix that?
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Sort of. If you befriend your bands, they send bulletins out when they announce tour dates as well as have dates listed on their page. Problem with that is, if you intend on using that as your primary gig update source, you'd have to be pretty stringent about checking your bulletins all the time.
I like areyoukind's suggestion-- it would probably be less of a pain in the butt than myspace.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

I've never heard about a show from myspace that I didn't find out from other sources first, honestly. A lot of bands use myspace as their sort of official website (ie Girl Talk) but you don't really need to set up an account to check out their stuff. Just using Jambase works just fine I would say
finding out info on bands is one of the main reasons I joined MySpace. you will know from your page if your bands put out bulletins or blog something... I've been notified of tour-dates, ticket pre-sales, and other important things.

^^Really? I've never noticed such valuable information.... Maybe it's because my recent bulletins are overwhelmed by stupid long lost high school acquaintances saying "check out my new pics LOLZ"
but that's probably just my problem, and not something most people deal with. In fact, maybe i'll start going through and removing those people from my alleged friends list. It would clean a lot of that nonsense up

^^Interesting... i just ignored that feature because as with both facebook and myspace I just assume that any "improvements/new features" are actually quite the opposite
this is cool though, you "subscribe" to certain of your friends it tells you whenever they post a blog, update profile, post a bulletin, post new pictures, etc
you can choose which things you wish to be notified of also

True...I use MySpace ONLY for bands/music...I lock down my profile and only add peeps I know and bands...Fuzz.com is also a GREAT site for unsigned/indie bands and artists...it's how I found out about the original Nightwatchman AOJ tour dates.....and I think it was the ONLY source that released those first 5 or 6 tour dates first.....and I got an email so I didn't even have to log on to see it..... ;D

to eloborate:
important things including contests, new merchandise, television appearances, and promotions.
Only once have I gotten info from My Space before it appeared on Jambase. Jambase usually has shows posted before they are officially announced. I don't know how I found out about shows before Jambase, honestly. I missed a lot.
