ahhhhh, the things you dont have to worry about by camping in your car....
but fo realz, there was a tent in centeroo last year where you could drop of your phone and they would charge it for you...i assume they had universal/multiple chargers...come back later and pick it up ready to go...

I have one of those battery charger things. Last year I didn't have it so we had to charge all of our phones with a power inverter in the car...which means that you have to have the car on (not running, but so the lighter thingie is getting power) which is not so great, plus you have to leave the phones there while you're gone. I never tried the phone charging place in Centeroo...I seem to remember they were being pretty secretive about it, haha. I just checked my guidebook and it doesn't say how much they charge (if anything) but it did remind me that the name of the place was the i'm Connected Pavilion...it was the same place where they had computers available.
I don't think they charged at all for charging phones. I know that they didn't charge for internet access, as I stopped in a few times over the weekend to touch base with some friends that I wanted to make jealous, .
They probably have iGo chargers down there, with the interchangeable tips for different phones and electronic devices.
iGo also makes battery operated chargers that work with these tips, you can get em at RadioShack. It's actually a pretty neat little device.
last year the phone charging tent in centeroo had the chargers for a lot of different models, sometimes you had to wait awhile if you had a popular phone tho. you signed in, they took your phone, gave you a number, and told you to come back in 30 minutes. it gave my phone a couple of bars of battery power, enough to last a couple of days if i turned it off between uses.
"White collar conservative flashin down the street, pointing that plastic finger at me, they all assume my kind will drop and die, but I'm gonna wave my freak flag high." Jimi Hendrix
There were people who were waiting for an hour in line, only to find out that their particular charger wasn't available. I was one of those people, but lucked out in catching some of the shorter lines that were only 15-20 minutes. Definitely figure out an alternative. Just make sure you have a regular charger AND a car charger with you -- you'll increase your options by a hundred fold. Even if you're in tent only, asking someone with a car or an RV is a much better bet than that tent in Centeroo!

If you bring a charger that plugs into a car's cig lighter almost anyone wouldn't mind if you plugged it in their car. Just ask someone. I wouldn't mind. Look for me. I'll be the guy in the white truck.
Even better, leave the damn thing at home. Or charge it before you come and only use it for an emergency.
I have a car charger, and just plugged my phone in whenever I was around camp. But my friend and our neighbors just brought their regular chargers. We found some random open plugs around the VIP tent thing and they charged them there. I don't know if the pods out in GA would work for that, but I'd think so. We were kind of sneaky about it, but I saw a lot of other ninja-style charger sneakiness going on too.

If your really really worried about keeping your phone charged, consider this handy dandy little item. The boy and i do alot of "in the middle of nowhere, leave the car and hike 10 miles" camping. It works well enough to get you through Roo. It works well enough to keep me in contact with home when i need to be and small enough to fit in your pocket. The downside is the need for a battery which = bad for mother earth.
I would imagine that tons of camp sites will have inverters that will allow you to plug in your home charger. I know I will allow anyone a socket to charge their phone.

I agree, just bring your car charger. There is no need to even start the vehicle. Cell phones take a minimal amount to recharge.
Please, please, please, figure out a way to charge your phone. My son was a volunteer at the info booth last year and he had more lost people trying to find their friends and/or campsite, but their phone batteries were dead. So, two words of advice for you young 'ens. (1) set up your campsite and make a map on your hand or piece of paper of how to get back - BEFORE YOU START DRINKING, ETC..... There's nothing worse than not knowing your way home. This isn't Oz, you know. (2) Keep your cell phone charged and in your pocket. Don't let it fall into the port-o-john. If you have to tie a string around it and put it over around your neck, please do. Okay, enough mom advice. Be careful, be nice, and have fun.

I think we should all burn our cell phones ! I just couldnt believe the ammount of rooers with phones stuck to the side of their heads ! Let it go , use it for emerg only, you have all year to waste your time talking on a phone, give it a break for 4 days..
I had no problem at all with the charging station. Got mine charged several times last year with only one wait of longer than 10 minutes or so, and that was on the last day.
I'll just be sure to bring my home charger then, and cut down on all the hassle. I don't think I'll be using it much though, just a few text messages here and there. However, the battery on my phone is total crap, so I don't know. It runs out way too quickly, and it barely even lets you know it's running low. It'll say I have a full battery at 2:30, but by 4:00, it's giving me the "plug me in or I'll die" sounds.

OK so this is my first roo year(YAY!) but i was wondering something
we will be doing tent only and i was wondering where people charge their cell phones?
is there any kind of device that is liek a battery operated charger?
thanks
My dad bought this thing from fred's that came with multiple plug ins, and it had a handle on it so all you did was spin the handle and it charged what ever you plugged into it and it had a light on it that would chargfe when you spun it, so it doubled as a flash light

i'm just keeping my phone off and in the tent. It'll be fully charged when we arrive, and then it's going to just chill in my tent until I need to make phone calls.
I'm paying bunches of money to relax and have a good time, and I really don't want to be bothered with my phone. I'll turn it on to call my Dad on Father's Day, and if there are any emergencies.
