Last year I bought a bootleg Bonnaroo T-Shirt for $8.00. It looked just as good as the official ones they were selling for $30.00. Only one problem, when I washed it, the ink faded DRASTICALLY.
I used to work as a silk-screener. What happened here is that the ink was applied to the shirt but was not cured, And by cured I mean heat must be applied to the ink after it is applied to make it set and not fade when you wash it.
Long story short. If you buy a Bonnaroo shirt from someone walking around selling them for $8.00-$10.00 iron the thing when you get home. Set your iron on the hottest setting and iron it for about 5 minutes straight all over the inked area before you wash it. This should keep it from fading.
Apparently the bootleggers aren't all that concerned with what happens to the shirt after you buy it as long as they clinch the sale.

I saw a few going around last year with Jim James on the cover. It looked awesome, and I almost bought it just because i love Jim James... but I just couldn't justify it
I've got one from '05 that has two different bands on there twice, it lists My Morning Jacket in two different spots on the shirt and it also lists Perpetual Groove on the shirt in two different spots as well. Oh well, good think I like both those bands
Good advice on the ironing. Wish I would've known that last year. Another thing I noticed is they also shrink crazy. I think I'm done with the bootleg shirts.

well usually they are just cheap Haynes t-shirts bought in the big bags of them and screened. I bought an official and a bootleg last year. i actually like my bootleg one more and wear it more.

I bought a tiedyed shirt last year, and when I wore it to ACL last year I realized how goofy looking I look in a tiedyes shirt. Atleast a light blue tiedyed shirt. I am getting a regular Bonnaroo tshirt this year.
I always love when some body buys a tie die there and then wears it in the sun and sweats....Take the shirt off and look at your skin...Tattooed with the shirt now...I always bring the bootleg shirts home and wash them first
I bought a $15 bootleg shirt last year from a door-to-door seller and it still fits me just fine! It also hasn't faded or anything, and it is probably my favorite t-shirt.
i bought 2 different bootleg shirts from 2 different vendors last year. one shrunk and faded after the first wash and the other is still in great condition...even after 40+ washes. the thing i noticed about the later was the pattern felt heavy on the shirt. not sure if thats why its held up so good or not. its the "bonnaroo or bust" one with the police car on the front.
The funniest was in 05 when after the deluge of rain pre and during Jack Johnson all these bootleg shirts started bleeding ink...
Yeah, just be careful- I suggest not wearing them as soon as you buy them and doing the "curing" solution described above (I used to work screenprint too, good call Britney's_Fears)
I had a friend who somehow in 06 "found" or at least turned up with after Radiohead a box of shirts labeld Bonnapalooza with some incredible unbelievable lineup on . I dont they were real, but we had napkins/towels/whatever all weekend.
