After a great weekend in New Orleans this week, I got a call from my boss. He told me I am laid off effective immediately. I work(ed) for a fledgling startup company and we failed to get some necessary financing. So half of the company lost thier jobs. I don't know what I will do now, I really liked my job.
So I am back on the job market. I hope this doesn't impact my going to Bonnaroo this year. It shouldn't, unless by some small chance I get another job before 'Roo.
bummer man, gonna hang for a bit or start looking immediately for a new job? Sometimes it's kinda nice, go collect an unemployment check or two and figure out what to do with yourself
Sorry to hear that. But as Nola said, it could be nice to collect a couple unemployment checks. Especially with 'roo coming up, I can just imagine the convo:
Boss: "You're hired!" Mojo: "Thanks, I really appreciate the opportunity. Now can I have off June 12 through the 16th?"

Sorry about the job. That sucks. If you get a new one before Roo, you just tell them when you're interviewing that the vacation is planned and non-refundable tickets are purchased. It worked for me in '06. Started the job June 5, and left for a week a few days later. Woo hoo!
Sigh.....I'm sorry Mojo....but I've started new jobs and had big vacations planned right afterwards and they have ALWAYS accommodated so I wouldn't worry 'bout that... I'll PM you a link to our company website...seems like I remember that there were a bunch of jobs in the Tampa area posted last time I looked.....don't know that there would be any you would be remotely interested in but just in case....LOL!
I can definately relate. I was laid off on Valentine's Day. I worked for a new organic grocery store that just didn't make it. I haven't been able to find a job since and I've already purchased my ticket to Bonnaroo. I'm sure I really haven't tried my best to find a job mainly because I know if I get a job I probably won't be able to get off of work on that short of notice.

And it sounded like such a cool job too!
