Festival Network LLC, is proud to announce the addition of Trey Anastasio, Richie Havens and Son Volt to the lineup of the 2008 Newport Folk Festival - modern alt-country 11-piece Red Rooster has also been added to the roster. The 49th annual festival will take place August 1 - August 3 at historic Fort Adams State Park in Newport, RI. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased exclusively online at www.newportfolk.com or by calling (877) 655-4TIX.
The Newport Folk Festival will bring Trey Anastasio to the stage for a solo acoustic set and his first full performance in 17 months. This will be Anastasio's first-time playing Newport and his first-ever full solo acoustic show. Additionally, folk-funk pioneer Richie Havens will make a historic return to the festival after seventeen years, while alt-country rockers Son Volt and Red Rooster will make their debut. These artists join the already stellar 2008 lineup which pairs rising stars like Cat Power and Jim James of My Morning Jacket with venerated stalwarts such as Jimmy Buffett, The Black Crowes and Levon Helm (see below for complete lineup).
Anastasio's Newport Folk appearance will mark his return to the live stage with his first full solo set since March 2007. "Newport has such an amazing heritage," said Anastasio. "It will be a true honor for me to play on the same historic stage as my heroes like Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and so many others."

I've been thinking mighty hard about going this year, but the shows all end by 7:00 pm... not sure what I'd do with myself at that point. The lineup looks great though.
Yeah, I was just thinking that as well. 7pm seems awfully early for a festival to end. I'm just about to buy my tickets, I live a little over a 1/2 hour away and I'm taking my girlfriend to break her "festival" cherry. I'm excited for the Jim James set as well as Trey and Levon, who I missed at 'roo.

Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

I went a few years ago when David Gray played. You couldn't have asked for a nicer day. It was sweltering in the early afternoon, but when David took the stage the warm sea breezes were blowing. I let them wash over me, the boats just visible out of the corner of my eye. What a glorious backdrop for "Sail Away."
its a good time - but short. goes from 11 - 7. today was later since everyone started late
then you get to hang out in newport. schnoooootay.
Newport is the pits.I was forced to hang out there for a day when I was looking at going to school in Providence a few years back. Glad I didn't do that. But I'm stoked you had a good time.

I was also at this show for both days. Trey's set was awesome. Bathtub Gin was awesome! Jim James was exceptional as always. I wish we would have been under the tent for that one. Standing out in the pouring rain was no fun. Especially when the rain rendered my phone unusable. But it was worth it for a great show. Jake Shimabukuro was also great. I didn't get the chance to see him at 'roo, but I'm glad I got the chance yesterday.
