As with all topics, I'm sure that this one has been mentioned several times in other threads. But again, like other topics, this one could be more useful with its own thread.
Anyways, seeing how there's a chance of storms during our weekend, why not find out what the best methods of waterproofing your camp grounds are.
I figured simply fastening/holding up the edges of an underlying tarp might keep an area dry, but I'm sure all of you have better or more creative/simple plans.

Put a tarp down under your tent, to prevent the bottom from soaking through.
Also last year, under threat of rain (which definitely DIDN'T happen, haha) I seam-sealed my tent and sprayed all of it with Scotchguard. It provides some protection.
^^ make sure the 'footprint' for your tent is a little smaller than the tent itself.
Ex: Imagine a 6 inch square piece of plastic (footprint) and a 4 inch square box (tent). When rain hits the box and rolls down the sides,it will be stopped by the plastic and channeled right under your tent instead of being allowed to escape into the ground.
I spread my tent out upside down and laid out a thick plastic painters drop cloth.. trimming it so it's about 6 inches smaller all the way around.
Seam sealing and waterproofing spray are also a must if you want to stay dry. It doesn't hurt to imagine where the rain would go and plan your tarp placement accordingly-- you don't want to hang a tarp where it would drop water right outside your front door!

I am putting my tent under my 10 x 20 canopy, and I might wrap tarps around the sides of the canopy if it rains. That and bring air mattresses, and you will be off the ground no matter what.
