no way! i think it'll be a long time before a headliner tanks like that. and just yesterday i again heard people talking about how fun the police show in phoenix was and how they can't wait to see them again in a few days.

doubt it. different kind of music, bands in a different situation ie. not reuniting, and i am willing to bet Metallica feels more pressure to impress the Roo crowd than the police did. no one had a problem with the police until they played, hopefully its the opposite for metallica and when they start playing people will be like "ooooh so this is why...."

Yeah, I think Metallica was approached for a very specific reason, and I think Metallica said yes for a very specific reason of their own... when someone said let's book The Police, I'm sure everyone just said "okay", but when someone said let's book Metallica? A long discussion ensued between everyone invloved... and I'm excited to see how it all plays out!
ya, i think this is a pretty big deal for all parties involved. it probably seems like a stretch for both the band and the organizers... but honestly they wouldn't waste time, money and effort to get a band if they weren't confident that they would rock our freaking faces off!
which i believe metallica will do. i hope some of you haters at least come out and watch a few songs. if you don't like it, go grab a beer and wait at a late night stage. ie The police -> The flaming lips for me last year.
i'll definately be at metallica. i'll probably leave a little early to get a good spot under the tent for MSTRKRFT. but when i was 14 all i ever listened to was metallica. haha when i got home from school the other week i grabbed all my metallica cds out of a box in my closet and started listening to them again to prepare for the epic night. the show will most definately not get full attendance but i'm willing to bet 50-60,000 people will be there at least.
The Police were a headliner that just happened to be playing Bonnaroo. Metallica is a headliner going out of their way to play Bonnaroo. I believe therein lies the major difference.
The real question is will Zeppelin mail it in next year.
metallica rocks hard and i saw them a few days ago at the weenie roast and they were great just hoped i wasnt to seated so far out... hoping for a closer chance to rock with metallica
