wow, I had never thought of that, but I brought my lantern last year and didn't have a problem. Then again, our security check overall was just a real quick spot check, I hope I get the same treatment this year!
plus here's some more karma for your avatar, it still cracks me up whenever i see it

Thanks for the K+ and the replies... I'll just leave it at home this time. Even if I'm in for just a spot check.... I don't want any hassle at the gate. I figure if they confiscate anything they may be more apt to start the full-cavity search I want to start the weekend comfortably!
Hmm, though I never even thought about it...I also never had any trouble w/ bringing lanterns in. We had four at our Campsite last year. I think the glass that 'Roo is concerned w/ is the type that could be carried around, broken on the ground, left behind etc. etc.

my dad got a lantern (non coleman) at a christmas office swap and i opened it and its had a mesh globe on it...maybe coleman makes htese...(or im bringing a cheap pos...)but i put it in my fancy shmancy coleman plastic case and it fit just right...so maybe just put your coleman lantern with glass globe in one of these and if you still get hassle, argue that its not a glass "container"...

I wouldn't worry about that type of glass. As someone said earlier, they are concerned with food and drink containers. I've done check points at festivals and that was the only kind of glass that was banned. Hell, the vehicle you drive is covered in glass. They can't ban that.

That is an excellent point, it never crossed my mind, and I'll make sure I wear my sun glasses (glass lenses) while I'm arguing with the check in guy. Although for us the check never even got that far, and I totally forgot we had 2 lanterns in the truck.

Be sure to bring a good lantern and extra batteries. You'll need it for after-dark trips to the port-o-john. If you bring a flashlight, there is no place to set it and the chance of a "fall-in" are good. At least a lantern you can place on the floor or hang on the little hook on the door. Don't go in without a light -- it's fucking spooky and you (girls especially) don't know what you may sit on.... Sorry to be gross....
As far as fuels go, propane is much better than liquid fuels. Battery powered lanterns usually follow this rule, the bigger the lantern is , the brighter it will be. If you get a compact lantern, buy a LED one. Produces more light with less energy. Hey, high intensity glow sticks are good for late night runs too. They are super bright and go out in 30 minutes.
