Starting today, New Jersey will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers' overtime. There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main intersections and highways. They are the following:
I-295 north and south
1-95 ( Jersey Turnpike) north and south
1-80 east and west
I-287 north and south
I-78 east and west< BR> 1-195 east and west
1-280 east and west
Rt.130 north and south
Garden State Parkway north and south 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes.
They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are bringing in all of their part timers on full time. If you work in NJ, NY, DE or CT you will probably take one of these highways. It's up to you how fast you are going when they clock you.
Driving Ticket fine increase in NJ: Starting on August 15th, the price of a ticket for violation of NJ Law 39:3-29 (failure to show your driver's license, registration, or insurance card at the time you are stopped) is going from $44.00 to $173. Please make sure your vehicles have the proper documents in them.
If you jump in the car to run to the store and forget your wallet with your license in it and you are stopped... Oh well... you just spent $173. And the fine for not having all three documents is $519!!!
Forward to people in NJ, and let them know of this change. And be careful, the fine for hand held cell phone use while driving will be going up to $180.

this.
pisses.
me.
off.
Why must they buy more cars and pay more overtime just to bust somebody's ass for driving a car fast and trying to get a free no-no raid on a poor kid every now and then while doing it, rather than spending that money on better surveillance and UC's on the streets to bust the people with guns and knives in the dark alleys that actually intend to injure someone rather than bustin somebody's chops who's just running late for work in the morning so he's heavy on the gas.
Excuse me, officers... but I thought your job was to PROTECT, not to make the state money. Shows my ignorance, i guess
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

^^I don't.
and the only reason for that is because 90% of the time when I see a police car drive by me they are either on a phone or a walkie talkie and I don't see them payin any fines.
I'm hoping they're conducting business, unlike the soccer mom who's yapping to her friend about the shoes she just got on sale at Nordstrom...as she nearly sideswipes my car.

Try this one on for size... we had a soccer mom in a HUGE suv somehow get half of her damn car up on the curb at the bus depot, almost hitting a stroller. She was yapping away.
Note: The bus depot lane isn't even the right lane.. you have to change lanes to get to the curb, then change lanes again when you leave....

I've been trying to respond to this for the past few minutes and it's really hard to put what I think into words on this issue... mainly because I agree that the soccer mom yappers who sideswipe cars or bump up onto curbs are completely unnecessary and should be punished/fined/what have you. But I also feel that a fine is a fine... there really is no reason to increase a fine in my opinion. Is talking on a cell phone while driving tomorrow really more dangerous than it was last year?? I don't think so, yet the increase in punishment would indicate that it has...
And as for the police using phones/walkie talkies... I totally accept/hope that they are conducting necessary business on those phones, but at the same time I think that if they're gonna bust people's chops for using hand held phones while driving then they should also invest in some hands-free communication. But then when I think about this, the only way they'd spend money on such technology would be by increasing fines... so basically law enforcement is just a farking vicious cycle that I just want nothing to do with

Hey Boots, do you have a link or anything for this story? I'd love to search the link for a place that says "Questions? Email __________" and then flood their inbox with worthwhile questions
Hmmm, I think increasing fines makes perfect sense...no expense is static...gas, automobiles, salaries...they all go up. I'm not saying I agree with this method of raising revenue for the state, but the cell phone issue is a serious one. I've been hit twice by women talking on their cell phones instead of paying attention to their driving, and nearly hit too many times to count. Sadly, most people cannot successfully multi-task and trying to do so while behind the wheel of a several-thousand-pound vehicle is not the time to try to hone your skills.

I can see your point, as they do need to get their funding from somewhere for the necessities that you mentioned. I just hate the principle of the thing where I might have to pay more tomorrow for the same wrongdoing as yesterday.
And really it sucks that you've been swiped multiple times by yappers. I tend to think that the people who can't drive while talking on a cell phone can't really drive without one either though, but that's just my experiences from observing my friends driving habits...
Doesn't affect me since I live in TN, but I've received similar e-mails like this one in the past. About how they're going to be patroling parts of I-40 and I-65 in Tennessee more heavily, bringing in part-timers to work full time, new unmarked Crown Vics around town (that was a redflag to me when I received those e-mails; around here, Chevy is the new police vehicle supplier. You see very few Crown Vics anymore, mostly Impalas down here.) Almost the same wording, too, though I don't have an old e-mail for verification... just going on memory.
I'm curious if this is really happening or just a hoax e-mail that gets passed around and the states changed???

Im from NJ and this looks like the same initiative they had back in January when I got this in an email. I have noticed slight increase police presence on the roads, but nothing major. As far as the new law making using a cell phone a primary offense, it seems more people are yapping on their phones than ever and none of them seem to get pulled over. Its as if the cops are either too lazy or just dont care to pull anyone over for this. I honestly wish they would enforce this more to make my commutes a little safer and smoother.
I think this is good because people from new jersey cant drive and if they do drive stay in jersey, here in central pa at PSU we are getting so much of this jersey trash, first off most dont even have inspection or registration stickers on and they park where ever the hell they want, aka the middle of the road, and they talk shit on PA, I ask them why are you going to Penn State and they say because Rutgers sucks, exactly, shut the hell up or go back to your shithole you call home
I'm in north Jersey, exit 163, which is practically at the top, and my familys' shorehouse is @ exit 63, approx 100-115 miles away, and during the summer, I make that journey almost every weekend. I go off-season, too (actually like it better then). Anyway, holiday weekend, they'll be a million cops, but they'll also be a buttload of trafffic, so it evens out...I ususally go the flow, so it's cool, I'm no maniac. But there's always Jackoffs flying to either get to their shorehouse, and hit the bars on Friday (usually kids), or old farts flying to get to Atlantic City. I all right in the middle, so personally, I don't sweat the cops, especially if they nail some of those clowns....
I totally agree with you strum, this is just a pain in the ass to most people rather than a deterent to speeding. Someone who speeds regularly, won't be deterred by raising the fine $100. Maybe a few people, but generally the people who will be swayed are the ones without money, and now they have to give more of it away. I've only gotten about 3 tickets, only one for speeding, and it was total bullcrap. I've never been in an accident, and consider myself a pretty good driver. I mean I'm no grandma, but I don't go 15 over to speed limit.
BTW mockmania, I have a cabin about 20 minutes from PSU, and the Stateys up there suck. I was coming down one of the seven sister mountains and the speed limit changed from 55 to 45 around a bend, but the cop told me that he already clocked me at 60 before I had a chance to slow down. I WAS COMING DOWN A DAMN MOUNTAIN! Bah, no wonder no one respects police officers anymore. They no longer serve and protect, but rather enforce and annoy.
