hi all- what's the drive down rt 81 like? i'm driving a 29' Class A RV, from Jim Thorpe PA, so it's mostly 81- i have no underpasses to worry about, do I?
Hey, REDMAN, I'm leaving from North Jersey (exit 163) in a 31'. I was curious myself. When are you leaving? We're planning on bugging out on the 11th, around noon, as of right now...
I am for State College PA and ride 81 from 70 the whole way down there and it is a great road to drive on even at night my only tip of advice is leave as early as possible, we got to manchester around 3 or 4 at the wally world last year and had enough time to regroup and get ready for entrance, it looks like you will get to knoxville around 4 or 5 and then on your way for another 3 hour trek to manchester, so make the stop quick maybe even meet them directly off the interstate and continue on your way and you should be good
As mentioned above, 81 is a big truck road. It's beautiful through Virginia but don't get caught up in the scenery and let your guard down. Also, make sure you know all the laws before passing through there. No radar detectors (yes, they have radar detector detectors...) Make sure ALL your lights work.... etc.
another rt 81/75 question- is it worth it to take 81 to 75 to 24 all the way into Manchester? or should we consider 302 to 30 to 55 into Manchester? or some other non75/24 route...anyone ever take this route coming from the NE?
it seems like wrapping around Chattanooga may be overkill

Great question!!! I anxiously await opinions from the veterans.
11/2/19: Tool 5/17/19: Blues Traveler 5/9/19: Tool 11/10/18: Tenacious D 9/20/18: White Denim 7/23/18: Radiohead 6/4/18: Jack White 5/20/18: Tool 5/18/18: A Perfect Circle 5/18/18: Alice in Chains 5/6/18: Blind Melon
upon further review, it looks like 75 to 24 is the right way- same mileage, but an hour less! AND, i'm driving a 29' Class A RV, and i just dont think those backwoods TN roads are all that compatible, as 75 and 24 really should be. redman
