This may seem like a silly question, but how long does it take for a bottled water to freeze? I want to put a couple of dozen bottles in the freezer prior to Roo to act as ice cubes, but we have some timing constraints. I'm leaving Tuesday to take my girlfriend to visit her aunt for the weekend, and I'm meeting my buddy in Knoxville (he's arriving Wednesday afternoon). They have a freezer at his folks' place that we could use that night. I don' t know whether to try and freeze before I leave (in which case the ice would likely melt before we reach Bonnaroo), or freeze once we reach his house (in which case we risk the ice not freezing before we leave at 7 or 8 am on Thursday. Thoughts?

Depends on how much you've got in there and how big the freezer is but overnight will usually do it, I think. It might not hurt to freeze some of them ahead of time and some of them while you are at your friend's. That way the freezer won't be as full. If you have a good cooler, they will stay frozen for quite awhile. We usually freeze most of them but bring a few unfrozen. Of course, once you take them out, they melt (I almost just typed unfreeze) pretty quick.
Also depends on what size bottles you're talking about. I freeze galloons jugs which can take a couple days. Individual sized bottles will generally freeze overnight, depending on how many you freeze.
NBF is right. I'd freeze them ahead of time and refreeze what you can in Knoxville.
Caution, some bottles may burst when frozen so put them somewhere where water won't damage anything as they thaw.

The other cautionary rule is that if you stack them in there with no room between them, you will probably need to pull the center ones out at some point and shift the frozen ones on the outside to the center. The other bottles can actually insulate the center bottles and prevent freezing.
I froze water back in '06, but it was unthawed by Friday. I thought I had a pretty good cooler. Anybody got any tips.......cuz I prolly spent $30 buying ice all weekend.
