I came in here expecting to feel bad for your "long drive". It's not that bad. It's supposed to take 15 hours from where i'm from (Long Island NY) but it's been anywhere from 17-20 the last few years (due to traffic and construction).
Luckily this year i'm leaving from my girlfriends house in Rochester and it's only supposed to be a 12 hour drive. Maybe we'll see ya on the road lol.

oh man, thats some icky traffic time. Just look for the dark blue cavalier that says "ROOOOOOOOOOOOOO bound!!!" lol!
freeze an entire case of water bottles put one layer of frozen bottles at the bottom of the cooler pour some ice on top of them, and then add dry ice to the top of that add more water bottles, then beer, then more ice top with the remaining water bottles and then food, etc
really, freeze all the water bottles you can fit into the cooler (one cooler completely filled with frozen water bottles would be awesome... just take out like 10 every morning and leave that cooler closed all the time)
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

your method sounds logical logistically but i dont think your supposed to "touch" dry ice,or mix it with water(frozen or not).by no means am i scientist tho so take it for what it is..

You can mix dry ice with water. If it's a lot of water and a little dry ice, it will bubble up and be very cool looking. If it's a little water and a lot of dry ice, it will freeze the water solid almost instantly and stay frozen for a while. I am a scientist
Pshhh...amateurs. 22 hours from the middle of Canada ;D
That is a loooong drive!
We did it last year too. My car broke down in rural (read: very rural Minnesota) and it set us back 14 hours. The fix came to $600 and we briefly considered heading back up north with our tails between our legs, but luckily we decided to continue on and eventually made it to the 'Roo. We felt a little out of place at first, but the very first show we took in was Sam Roberts (Canadian), and soon realized there were about 400 other Canadians right up front with us. Wasn't the best set I saw at 'Roo, but it was definitely my best memory. (plus I got a pic of me with a guy who was also named Sam Roberts while watching Sam Roberts play. funny pic).
Anyway, it's a long drive, but it makes the festival that much better when you go through hell to get there.

The Drive is about 12 hours from Fort Worth Texas. we Plan on leaving Wednesday evening and getting in line somewhere around 8-10. I have a big 5 day cooler and the drive wont faze the ice if you have that and frozen water bottles. I also plan on duck taping around the edge of my cooler to create a seal to keep air from escaping and getting dry ice. I will have two coolers, I dont know if I will get another 5 day yet though. My non 5 day needed more ice everyday. For festivals they are a must.
some of you are displaying some serious dedication to the Roo. I love it! Kudos for sure. The 17 - 18 hr drive from Lexington to Naples beach was a total ball buster. Be safe ya'll!
On the real though, i'd personally be more concerned about teh gassez.
I'm so glad that i live one tank of gas away from the farm, and i'm carpooling. *wipes sweat from brow*
and hats off to all that are getting their stimulus check before and not after Bonnaroo. *salutes*
coming from a suburb of chicago(about 30 min south of the city)...should take 7-8 hours...we are leaving at prolly 7 or 8 on Wed....looking forward to the drive....it will be quackin sick
Coming from Ct. Was going to try to get dry ice, but we are leaving Wed morning at about 6am. We have a 14 hour (give or take) drive. Maybe we can pick dry ice up on the way? It's expensive up here. The guys at the "ice store" told me it would be about $80 to have enough dry ice for my medium sized cooler. I said, "no, not to fill my cooler" and he was like, "yeah, just a few small blocks." Crazy.
Staying in Mcminnville at a Best Western that still has plenty of rooms available. Thats making me a little nervous. Maybe its a sh*thole? Only 35 minute drive to Manchester. I will need the good nights sleep.
^^^Freeze you water bottles and put them in the bottom. Big blocks of ice stay frozen longer than little ice cubes. Plus they won't water everything down when they melt. Then just add ice when you get close.
Or put a bag of ice in still in the bag and don't empty out the bag til you get there. That will stay frozen longer too.
I havent tried dry ice ever, but have always gotten away with a few frozen 2 liter soda bottles or water bottles and filled the remaining space with cubes. On a seperate note, has anyone had an issue keeping their cooler closed with dry ice? I would think that as the dry ice changes from solid to gas form all that CO2 would need a place to go and pop open the cooler.

Rock Salt!
Use rock salt in your ice after putting everything in. Put in your drinks, then a layer of ice, then salt it up. Then more ice, then more salt. Repeat till full.
Be sure to bring a hammer if it completely freezes over, but it will stay frozen alot longer

I figured i would mention that if there is any chance of rain when driving to the Roo, Everybody should apply Rain X to their car windshield before you leave. It is one of the greatest things to do when driving in the rain. Rain literally just beads off the window, you almost dont need wipers on the freeway. Just dont apply it when its raining, and it can be a minor bitch to apply.
