I wrote the local winery to see if they sell wine in plastic bottles - well, turns out they do - and they couldn't be nicer people. I've sent them a link to this thread, so they might be reading it right now
I think its a great idea to shop at a local stores - and epecially when they go out of thier way to embrace the non-natives.
Here is thier reply:
"Hi John,
Thanks for your interest in our wines. We will be bottling 2 wines in plastic bottles for Bonnaroo, specifically. Both of these wines will also be available in glass for those who wish to hang on to it a bit longer. The wines available in plastic are Bonnaroo Red and Bonnaroo White and are both priced at 17.95 and they are 1 liter bottles.
Both of these are semi-sweet, just nice summer “sipping” wines. As you can imagine, it is not cost effective for us to bottle much wine in plastic, but we wanted some to be available for patrons to carry into Bonnaroo. Our winery is virtually the “starting gate” for much of the Bonnaroo traffic. In the past, we have also offered a plastic “sports bottle” so to speak that will hold an entire bottle of wine in case there is someone who can’t make it without one of our wines!
This will be our 4th Bonnaroo since we have opened and we have enjoyed meeting and talking with many of the Bonnaroo attendees!
We will begin selling the Bonnaroo wines the week before Bonnaroo.
I am attaching a wine list for you, in case you are interested. I was also just browsing on the forum you sent the link to and saw where there was some talk about a wind powered coffee house. It is a great place to be and I hope you can spread this word also. The owner actually worked for us for a while before she opened the shop. Can’t wait to tell her about the “scuttle-butt” on the forum about her coffee shop! She will be tickled!

Dry White
Chardonel 14.95 A light, fruity wine that pairs well with fish or chicken.

Dry Red
Tennessee Chambourcin 16.95 Medium-bodied wine that may be paired with pizza, hamburgers, hearty roast beef or steak.
Chambourcin Reserve 19.95 The “Reserve” in its name means this wine is more full bodied with stronger hints of oak than our Tennessee Chambourcin.
Tennessee Cynthiana 19.95 Versatile & full-bodied, enjoy with steak or spicy pork. Grown in Coffee & Warren Co. TN.
Merlot 16.95 Full-bodied wine. May pair with any red meat or sharp cheese and goes well with chocolate.
Syrah 16.95 A full-bodied, we suggest pairing this wine with most red meats and spicy dishes.
Tennessee Cabernet Franc 19.95 Full-bodied dry red is great with steaks or other red meats and sharp cheeses.
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 34.95 Full bodied red wine aged an additional 18 months in oak.

Stone Fort White 14.95 Cellar blend of Vidal and Cayuga. Pairs well with light picnic fare, chicken, pork & fish dishes.

Semi-Sweet
Roseycheeks 12.95 A light, crisp blush wine, to be enjoyed as a sipping wine, with a cheese or fruit plate, or as a great picnic wine.
Mountain Red 12.95 A semi-sweet red wine crafted from the American Concord grape. It pairs well with spicy dishes or fruit and cheese, and is great with spaghetti.

This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
Tom and Becky are great people I know them both pretty well. If you get a chance, stop by the winery, if you ask nicely, they may even take you on a tour of the winery. And there is always free tastings.
For you folks that are closer to manchester, they have live music at the winery one saturday out of each month during the summer. There are some pretty good bands that come and it is a fun time hanging out in the back with some wine, food, and good music.
They ususally put out a schedule early in the summer, I will try to get one and post it when it comes out.

My husband and I rode down there at the end of the summer and sat and tasted every wine they had. We then spent way more money on wine than a person should
My favorite is the Rosy Cheeks, and my husband really liked the Stone Fort. I personally did not love the Bonnaroo wine but bought a bottle anyway.

What didn't you like about the Roo wine? I will probably review it this year... I just want to know what I am getting myself into before I buy a few bottles of each.
^^Dani, I have to say, I'm completely jealous of your job. I think I need to change careers. How do you go about becoming a wine taster/reviewer? ;D

If you really want to know, and this isn't the path that most of us in the wine biz take, I've always wanted to be in the wine/beer/spirits industry.
I moved to France when I was 15 to start working at Veuve Cliquot (a major Champagne house) there I began my wine science training. Then I kept studying, moved back to the US to get my undergraduate degree and then moved to Italy to get my Masters in Viticulture (Wine growing and producing). I've worked for wine auction houses, gourmet stores, consulted for restaurants, taught viticulture classes and have helped wineries grow their grapes.
But, what I live for is writing about wine/beer/spirits. So, I just sent out a whole bunch of samples of my work and now I write for a whole bunch of papers and magazines... And that means I taste a whole lot of wine. ;D
Most people though, don't have formal education in wine when they get started. If you really want to get into wine, just start tasting, tasting, tasting and tasting. Keep a journal to keep track of your thoughts on everything and try to start reading some wine instructional books. The Wine Bible is a great place to start. It's broken into really easy to digest sections and will give you a firm grounding in all things wine.
This is probably WAY more than you wanted to know, and I can really talk your ear off when it comes to booze.

I am by no means a wine connoisseur, but I do love wine and I guess everyone has different tastes. For me, the Bonnaroo white tasted like "cheap" white wine (and I am not a wine snob - I usually drink Beringer, BareFoot, or Sutter Home Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio because they are affordable and decent). Sorry!!! I hate to put down a local vineyard's wine....... But some of their other wines were great! I didn't try the Roo red.

No worries! Drink what you like and price doesn't matter as long as it is good to you! ;D (One of my fave wines is Borsao, it's about $6 in the grocery store )

I guess it was not really too dry or too sweet, but just had that taste that makes you wrinkle up your nose and not really want to drink any more....... I threw half a bottle of it away - and I NEVER do that!! Sorry I don't really know how to describe it like a wine person would..... I think I need to read that book!
