Alright I'm really warming up (no pun intended) to the idea of dry ice. I've never really observed it outside of a scientific environment. Does it work as well as real ice? Someone from nashville mentioned that they sold it at krogers.....what nashville kroger was that? any other ideas where i could buy some? also i was always under the impression that dry ice had a chemical composition. should i be concerned about drink from a can that has been submerged in dry ice? finally, do you really think it would last all weekend??????

there has to be atleast 5 threads on dry ice already...
but since i'm too lazy to look them up for you, to answer your questions:
-dry ice works better than regular ice -any kroger typically will sell dry ice -dry ice will not invade a closed container and is not dangerous to use to keep things cold/frozen. otherwise it would not be sold in a grocery store -it may or may not last all weekend but it sure as hell will last longer than a bunch of ice cubes in a cooler
sorry brosef....i tried to search, but for some reason it keeps telling me that i have to use more than four characters. thanks for the answers though! in 06 all my natty was warm by friday night so this dry ice mumbo jumbo really turns me on.
be careful with the cans and dry ice they will freeze.... put a layer of bottled wate between beer and dry ice.. also bring some fruit cups to put in with dry ice,,, they will come out nice and cold and kind of fizzy when you open them to eat...what a nice treat...
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
i buy my dry ice at dollar general market. its cheap and they have small convenient containers. i buy a lot of roo supplies there. this is the MARKET not the little store. i go to the one over on murfreesboro road. they have tons of great deals.
1. start with a 5 day cooler 2. dry ice from Kroger or your choice of grocery store. 3. cover the bottom of cooler with dry ice. 4. cheap beat up towel on top of dry ice. 5. FROZEN water bottles 6. another cheap towel
We have also found that what works best for dry ice is to put it at the bottom of the cooler with a towel over it and then a layer of bottled water on top of that. The dry ice will keep the cooler cold and last all weekend this way.
Dry ice is nothing more than carbon dioxide in solid form and is perfectly safe as long as you handle with care. Even inside a plastic bag it is so cold it can burn you so do not directly touch the ice only the plastic surrounding it.

the kind i buy comes in little blue containers that are very easy to hold and move around. they fit easily into even a small freezer and can be stacked.

Word, sorry if my initial response sounded angry or annoyed... I didn't really intend it to be but then again I was also slightly drunk (what else is new ) and I tend to just be blatant and straight to the point when I ramble.
Welcome to the boards, as I see you're new and good luck figuring out the ice situation. Lots of people on here have good ideas and experience with it so you're in good hands with the inforoo crowd
Dude, I seriously can't concentrate on anything but bonnaroo right now. . .It's to the point where I'm poking myself in the eye with foreign objects. . . I think I just need to be sedated until Tuesday. . . . Dystopian Dream
I said this before, and will again , the only thing about the dry ice is some basic precautions. Remember Co2 is heavier than air and will sink, so if you are in a tent do not put a cooler with dry ice in with you and close it up. If you have it in your car do not sleep in there with it, when you have the windows closed or just cracked. I am not trying to be an alarmist and this is a worst case scenario type thing, but please be careful with it. That being said I bring it every year, and it works very well. So like I said the danger zone is dry ice, and your face below any ventilation, other than that it is fine. Sorry to sound like a Bonnamom guys .

so yall think that a layer of dry ice in the bottom of a cooler covered with a towel will keep something as cool as it would get submerged in wet ice? i dont know much about the stuff but it doesnt seem like the cans/bottles would get very cold just sitting on top of the ice. am i wrong?

Anyone know where I can get ahold of some dry ice in the Jackson, TN area? I tried our Kroger last year and they didn't have any.
Try the Casey Jones Village and Buffett.....haha I kid. Awesome place though........Honestly, I would stop in Nashville on the way over to Manchester. Youd have better luck finding it and your ice will last two hours longer!

I grew up in Jackson JCM alumni There are several places here in Nashville though, the cheapest is the welding supply place PM me and I will give you the number.
I'm staying in Mcminnville and there is a Krogers down the street. Maybe I will try to call and make sure they have it and pick it up on the way down. My stuff should stay frozen for a day if I don't open the cooler right?
