Sorry for the bombardment of capital letters in the subject header, but recent circumstances have made it necessary.
Anyway! My name is Hannah, and this will be my second Roo. Last year, I tried to get a bunch of people from my college in Connecticut interested in going to Roo '07 with me, and I impulse bought the ticket without knowing whether or not other people would come along. No one who I knew would come, so I posted a plea on Facebook to go with a group of people so that I would not be alone. Some lovely folks from Western Kentucky University replied, and we all ended up having a blast and becoming tight friends that, during vacations, have gone hiking together (spring break Great Smokey Mountains National Park Appilacian Trail sweeeeeetness).
So, naturally, this year I thought I was going to go with the WKU people from last year. Everything on both sides seemed set to go, and all of us were excited.
BUT, then the main person who had invited and took me in/showed me the ropes last year got a gig doing trail running at Olympic National Park in Washington this summer. I am so happy that he got that job it's ridiculous, but from that created the great unravelling of everyone from that original group who was supposed to go.
So, now I'm in a similar circumstance to the one I was in last year, except that I managed to convince my awesome friend from college Charlie to come with for his first Roo experience. But, for all of this to happen, we still need a group to be in the same camp group with. I'm flying in from Los Angeles, and he is coming down from the DC area, and so both of us are limited in what we can take or would want to take for this.
Also, my brother's graduation is on the 12th, and so I am attending that, then getting on a plane and arriving around 9:30 pm on the 12th, and essentially would just need to find my way to a base camp. Charlie is still figuring out travel plans.
I would be grateful to anyone here who would share space, and I am very much a phone talking/logistics working person. The two of us are respectively 19 and 20, and I would be able to show much more proof of our existence via phone and e-mailing, and if you feel more comfortable, I can have you talk with the people I did this with last year.
Some nice facts: I spin fire (poi), he knows some kung fu, kendo, and has a general obsession with kung fu movies. We both love music sooooo very much and love meeting new and fascinating people and going on adventures (I think all of those are a given but still).
Please, if you are willing and able, help make my second Roo and my friend's first Roo an awesome time!
Please e-mail hmasius@wesleyan.edu, or respond to this thread if you are leaning towards "yes" and the rest can be discussed interpersonally.
Well, I can't help out with campsite room, because we will be in VIP, but if there are any supplies you can't bring with you, there is the New helping hand thread. There you can find a number of people from this community who would love to help you out. You may also want to consider staying at Camp Inforoo in tent only. I can't think of a better place to meet a great group of people. Here is the helping hands link.
