I know 55 goes through my childhood stomping ground... But I have no idea what it's like during roo traveling season. Come on TN what's the scoop? Any bad spots or advise about this route???
Probably about the same time frame. Hard to say because we always spend the night outside Asheville and hit the road early Thursday morning. I'd imagine the traffic has to be a lot lighter than going anywhere near Atlanta. It's a pretty drive though the mountains too...
i was also wondering how you get into roo from 55. can you get to the entrance without having to get back on the interstate? or do they route you right back onto the itnerstate from 55? anyone know?

In case anyones still interested, took this route in '08 no problems. Did not have to get on highway, hardly no wait at all (like 45min from reaching line to campsite). Did see a few people pulled over but not many.
I always come this way from the south....231 through Fayettville and up through Lynchberg. No problems at all and NO traffic till I actually get INTO Manchester. You don't have to get on the Interstate at all. Wait time is more about WHEN you get there than HOW you get there.....at least that has been my experience....I think there is less scrutiny on 55 and the back roads than on the interstates coming in...but I would be careful no matter WHICH route you take.
i do it all the time. we shoot down from cookeville and like said before, hardly any wait. i wouldnt consider trying I-24. there is way heavy trafic there.
We came in on Hwy 41 (otherwise known as Manchester Pike). it runs parallel to 24. We got off of 24 on an exit right after we passed Murfreesboro and hoped on the highway, there was NO traffic whatsoever. When we got in line, we only had to wait 45 minutes to get in to the farm. Pretty amazing considering I was prepared for hours worth of traffic. We will DEFINITELY be taking this route again next year!
Just dont speed through mcminnville. They are notorious for putting up roadblocks, profiling rooers and pulling people over on roo weekend for no reason. And if they do pull you over, they WILL search your car, consent or not.

I was in VIP last year and came in from Tullahoma. Missed the High School because traffic was going so fast. Had to turn around to get to the High School. Then, the drive through town was quick. Not sure how the GA option for this route will change in 2009.
But regardless, I'll be roo-avaning with others, so I'll sit back and enjoy the travels.

If you are with us - it won't change at all - because we come in that way from Huntsville

If you are coming thru fayetteville or Lynchburg BE CAREFUL! i got in lots of trouble last year for posting this because of who I worked for but there is a lot of attention paid to out of state tags in Faye on 'roo weekend ....also anytime you travel thru Lynchburg when the speed limit says 35 it don't mean 36 or 34...they mean 35! but that is usually the way i go...
went in the back way on bushy branch last year and it seemed much quicker and it goes right by the winery! WOO HOO BONNAROO RED in plastic bottles...i shall buy more this year
So if I'm reading my google map right, if coming from Nashville on 24E, hop off around Beechgrove on 2/41 looks like 10 miles or so to Manchester and a left on 55...sound right?

If you don't want to take I-24, you'll have to break off 65 S at Knoxville and head I-40 west....then make a left at cookeville and take the highway south.
