Last year we brought over 100 frozen 20oz bottles of water to Bonnaroo and carried a few each day into Centaroo in a backpack.
This year I decided that even though we recycled those bottles, it would be still be WAY more environmentally conscious of us to freeze a few big jugs of water and pour them into a few reusable bottles and into a camel back.
PROBLEM is the rule that only allows FACTORY SEALED bottles of water into Centaroo.
This rule seems to be outdated.
Wouldn't it make more sense to allow reusable bottles and full camelbacks SO LONG AS they only contain crystal clear WATER?
I'd like to hear what everyone's experiences have been in getting full camelbacks (water only) or full reusuable plastic bottles into Centaroo.
The well water is OK but I like to have ice cold purified water atleast part of the day.
i think if i recall they let us take in opened water bottles last year, and i remember by like friday mid day they were like u dont need to empty ur camel backs cause it was so dusty and hot

i always took my full camelbak in with no problems at all, they never so much as even asked me about it.
look for fast moving security lines and approach them with the camelbak on the front of your person (think, pregnant belly look) and open any and all pockets on your camelbak before reaching the security person and you should be all set to get through in a jiffy
Sounds good. I did that last year... wore my back pack in my front all opened and exposed and they seemed to appreciate that and barely took a look.
Hopefully they wont make me dump my fresh water. If they do, oh well it's just water.. Nothing can bring me down at the roo.
it may or may not seem unethical, but if you run into some jerky gate person, i've heard that if you tell them you have some sort of medical condition (seizures or something, i think it was??) that requires you to drink lots of water, they won't make you dump it out. allegedly.
but like i said, i never even once even got a second look.
I think I always got through with my full camelbak because it also had the backpack pockets too - they were too busy making sure all those pockets were ok they may not have even noticed that it was also a camelbak.

last year I had a nalgene bottle. One time I walked in with it full and they asked what was in it and I said water and they asked to smell it and they let it pass. Another time I had to empty it, during which I told the gate staffer that if I die from dehydration then he will be haunted for a very long time by me.
But really, the water stations in Centeroo really aren't that bad. Plus, it's always shady in there and gives you an excellent chance to wash up real quick without having to venture into the murky fountain water.

last year, i had no problems with bringing in opened bottles to re-use. most of the time, if you just opened up your bag, they would wave you through. if they say something, just try another line. i had friends who brought in many cans of beer without any problems.
yeah the fastest moving line like was said above and open your shizz all up before you get to em.....should be no problem....if it is as was said before try another line.....

Don't use the main arch entrance. I found security at the side entrance much more lenient, and it usually moves fasted. I brought a canteen and I never had to empty it.
Thanks for bringing this up. It crossed my mind, too. I don't have a camelback, but I do have a nalgene that I was hoping to use. All I plan on bringing in is water so I won't be devestated if I have to dump it out. Can always refill it once inside Centeroo. And, like dogfighter said, the side entrance always seemed to be more lenient. They barely even searched my stuff...just kinda looked inside my unzipped bag or camera holder and let me go right on through.
if a security dude tells you to empty it,promptly do so on his shoes...i bet youll be the last one to be asked by that dude...
Please don't do that...I have friends working security this year...they're people just like you and me. Also, they work 12 hour shifts so I'm pretty sure they'll already be miserable. Don't make it worse!
I plan on buying a camelbak, and I would like to have icy-cold water in it instead of lukewarm wash station water, so I'm glad I'm not going to have to empty it!

i have never had a problem with security asking me to emptying out my camelbak nor has anyone i've ever gone with guess we are just lucky and last year by saturday they let you bring in opened water, half drank water, pretty much anything with water because so many people were passing out i counted 7 on saturday alone
Here's what I do. buy a five (5) gallon water bottle at the store. Use it to fill your camelbak and water bottles (refillable ones, you bring from home) for the cooler at camp, and return the container at the store when you get home for your deposit back. Zero waste. Good for you and Roo!

definitely not! Who in their right mind would do an outrageous and silly thing like that....
ARRGG... I got an answer from Bonnaroo about my post but they didn't really answer my question..
I wanted to know if you could bring into Centaroo FULL nalgene bottles and camelbacks as long as they were only filled with water.... I already know you can fill them in Centaroo with sorta-cold well water.

Thanks for your interest in Bonnaroo. Yes, nalgene type bottles are allowed into Centeroo as long as they are empty upon arriving at the security checkpoint. You can then fill them up free of charge once you are inside.
