I'll be doing live blogging from Roo. We'll be posting it on our website (MoeTrainsTracks.com). We'll also be mentioning where we're headed, so if anyone wants to meet up with us... There's a good way to find Team Excelsior!

i;ll be updating my blog whenever i can, too. moe, i'm sure i'll run into you somewhere. just look for the guy in the media tent with the mics, i assume?
yeah... See my avatar? That's the logo which will be on our microphone flags (Minus the Moe Train's Tracks writing at the bottom). Easy way to tell who we are. Another easy way is to check out site to see what we look like! LOL
We definitely encourage anyone to come up and chat with us (on mic if ya want) if you see us around the grounds!
Ok everyone... it's 2016 now. Has the Wi-Fi situation improved since? The only way to attend Bonaroo, and not get fired, is if I work during the day on Thurs. & Friday, which means I need some Wi-Fi. I can use my phone as a hotspot but it depends on the cell service nearby. I don't know if there are strong enough towers to do that or if there will be Wi-Fi provided for the event. So my questions are:
How is the cell service during Bonaroo?
Can cell service be used as a data hotspot?
Do they provide Wi-Fi at Bonarro
If Wi-Fi is provided is it for GA campers (I saw that VIP has it) and if so is it semi reliable enough to check email and check with the boss, etc.?
(Please only share experiences within the past two years or so because what happend in 2008 may not be very relevant now)

I've never tried to call anyone, but trying to use the internet over the cell network was almost impossible. Unless you go VIP, they get WiFi in their campground.
Your best option, gang, is to detach yourself from the interwebs and experience the festival. There's more than enough to see and experience at Bonnaroo than to need some downtown to update your social media.

She needs to access it in order to work, which she has to do to go.
Also, I'm sure that you meant it kindly but I really resent being told how I will best enjoy my experience. I use social media to connect with other attendees, to learn about changes in the festival (because we all know that the organizers themselves do a half-assed job of communication), and to help store my memories.

You will only have a good time if you do it my way. Shut your face.

I had great service in 2014 (AT&T) but I was in pod 2. Service that year inside centeroo was ok. I could send texts, call out, but couldn't receive calls. Internet inside centeroo was non-existent. In 2015, I had no issues with my phone except the wifi. I couldn't get on twitter or facebook or snapchat. It wasn't until the last day before the wifi seemed better. Can't give a reason as to why there was a change, just that it finally loaded my social media. Calling and texting was perfectly fine though. I was also in pod 10 last year but even in centeroo, it was the same for me as pod 10. People around me had no problems using social media last year. Just seemed to be me. But I was the only one with AT&T.

I didn't have too much problem with AT&T data last year, which was reliable if slow. Only made a couple of calls but they went through, and texting seemed fine. Data is never full speed, but if you just need to do email and maybe a bit of social media my guess is you'll be okay with AT&T or Verizon. Counting on a lot of bandwidth might not be a good idea, especially if you have essential, data-intensive work to do. I had more serious trouble with T-Mobile there, data, text, and voice, but it's been a couple years since I switched. Tried finding wifi in 2013 and 2014, and gave up pretty quick.
And forget that new Myface or tweetergram or whatever. fidonet+EFnet 4lyfe!
Slam books. Thanks a lot for bringing up the repressed traumatic childhood memories of those horrid things. I was digging the repartee until you brought up those <<shudder>>

The way I remember it, there was some real dodgy wifi in VIP at the lounge tent, not sure I would rely on it for any important work. Definitely not any real wifi in the campground itself.
In 2013 the Sprint service was basically nonexistent, texts would arrive 12 hours later for instance.
In 2014-2015 Sprint service was a little better and could even pull up a web page or two, again, not sure if I would rely on it for important work.
In 2015 I bribed a security guy and got the pw for the Bonarroo employees wifi, my memory is hazy but even that didn't really do anything, even in the VIP campground.
But my son's friend had another carrier, might have been verizon, he had 4G on his iphone all 4 days.
