I vital pole broke in my shade tent today as I was making sure I still remembered how to do it. So its all leaning and wont stay up properly. And the manual/instructions say not to take it back to the place of purchase and on top of that I dont have my receipt. I've only gotten it out of the bag twice including today. Now it looks like i'm out 85 more dollars right before roo....... FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK

suggestions on how to avoid buying a new one?
what kind is it?if ita awally world brand they sell universal replacement poles...
I am not sure if you have one of those quick set up tents, or an old fashion pole system but you can try this.
Figure out how much pole you have lost and try replacing it with PCV pipe. This can be found in many sizes. Figure out which size will fit insize the exisiting pole. Cut it to the correct length to extend the existing pole and get a four way adaptor for the PVC (the one that looks like a + sign) and stick it on top and then slide the existing pole over the + and that should hold it. If you are looking for extra strength you could get PVC Cement, but I don't think that would be necessary once the tent is fastened to the ground.
It is not going to make it 100% again, but it will get it back up and running ASAP.
I am sure someone else will come up with a better plan - like calling the manufacturer - but this will get the job done.
Same thing happened with my tent we did a dry run over the weekend and their was a problem with one of the poles. Went to Sports Authority and REI and they didn't have a replacement that would come soon enough so we just got the same tent as we bought last year and we are going to "borrow" a working pole out of there and then replace it and take it back when we return.
its an easy up type tent, and It isnt a support pole but one of the cross braces that run along the top. The kind that intertwine and it just sags on one side. I'm going to go raise hell at wal mart here in a bit and see if I can get a replacement.
Well, if all else fails, you could at least fix it to be usable for 'Roo with a bunch of duct tape and a splint or two. Not the best setup, but it'd at least make it straight and rigid for the weekend.
That's shitty! Last year on Sunday when people started leaving someone tried to get through our campsite and drove right over one of the poles for our canopy. They didn't even acknowledge that they did it.
