I probably wouldn't park far away and walk in... but that's just me. I wouldn't expect traffic will take more than 2 hours to get in by that time... That sucks you're missin' out on the magic that happens Thursday night though.

my advice is get there a day early. Then you wont miss the magic. Otherwise your wait on Friday will be fairly long. Expect a couple of hours in line and a pretty far walk to Centeroo.
so enlighten me as to the magic of Thursday night.......
Just think of what will happen when over 50,000 people wait in line all morning and get all set up and are ready to have the best weekend of the year and the music is rollin' all night even though everybody's exhausted from traveling. Half the people there haven't slept a wink and all night drove it to get there but they're still up til the crack of dawn anyways.
It's just not something to miss. I mean, you paid for Thursday-Sunday with your ticket... why wait til Friday to show up?

Thursday has some great acts. If you are into Metallica harder music you definitely wont be disappointed by Battles and The Sword. And lets not forget Back Door Slam, MGMT and some of the others. The music thursday night is some of the best with the least conflicts of the entire weekend. Plus you'll get a better camping spot by showing up on Thurs.
Some people are psyched for Vampire Weekend. Just not me.
my buddies have an RV that I will be staying at and they are getting in thursday. I have to work till 3:00 friday and another friend and I are driving over from Nashville. Hopefully parking and walking in won't be too much of a hassle.
Last year I was headed to Chattanooga on the Firday of Bonnaroo and the traffic was nothing. No cars backed up or anything. Should I expect the same this year?

i too am headed there friday. leaving atlanta in the morning.. i wasnt planning on sitting in any roo traffic.. perhaps that was naive of me. i just figured everyone was showing up on thursday - now i just dont know.
i was planning on leaving atlanta around 10 a.m. 3 hour drive to roo.. plus bathroom/coffee stop, minus the time change.. puts me at roo at 1 pm. unless of course there is a car line.....

I'd agree with just about all of this. I definitely noticed a certain buzz in the air on Thursday. Everyone had been looking forward to Bonnaroo for months, and having finally arrived, there was almost a surreal quality to it - like, "holy crap, is it really here?" Having studied the schedules of previous Bonnaroos on the official website, it seems like they generally try to schedule up-and-coming, lesser-known acts for Thursday - more 'flavor of the month' stuff, if you will (please don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling Thursday's musicians at all). And that makes sense, I suppose, since so many people can't come until after work on Friday.
If I had to pick a "weakest" day of the festival, just based on the lineup, it'd be Thursday, but that's only because the music doesn't start until around sunset, there are no headliners or huge-name acts, and there's no late night. I had a great time losing my roo-ginity on Thursday. I guess it's kind of like losing your actual virginity - it's probably not the best, it might not last as long as you want, but damn it, you've looked forward to it for so long!
EDIT: Oh yeah, I almost forgot to ask - have Thursday night shows become a permanent fixture for Bonnaroo? I'm wondering, because when I was looking at the previous schedules (as I mentioned), it seems they didn't have any Thursday night shows in 2002, 2004 or 2006.

^^^
They did have them in 2006 but they were a lot smaller acts than the more recent years. We arrived at about 6pm on Thursday in 2006 and I know there were bands playing that night.
so sad that I have to wait till Friday this year...i usually try and get in late thursday nite..but due to the new job i will only be able to take off Monday so i will be leaving friday after work...unless i do some tricky shizzz

I had to do this in '07. It sucks because you miss Thursday which is usually the day you get turned on to lesser known acts.......but as long as you get in by Friday morning you should be good. I could miss a few from Thursdays show in '07.......but I HAD to be there for Cold War Kids on Friday.
Thursday is always a great time, get inside, soak it in for the first time in a year, or longer, or for the first time. Get one of those beers you've been longing for forever, people watch, get something good to eat, ride the ferris wheel, listen to some great live music...need I continue

I could say I meant the figurative roller coaster, but I meant ferris wheel. Thats what happen when you eat corn at 8:30 morning and then start writing on the board
this is my second year going to bonnaroo from california... extremely excited as last year was a amazing experience going to the farm.
we are not leaving till thursday afternoon as my son has his 6th grade graduation in the morning so i have now brainwashed myself this year that bonnaroo is a 3 day fest! thursday is great but we wont be there til 10pm and wont get to the campsite till probably 2-3am so its a fri-sun for us...
wanted to know if anyone has come in on friday before and how is the line and any info you have is greatly appreciated..

I did Day Parking for the past few years and drove in every morning. I never sat in any traffic on Friday morning - we usually came in around 10 - 11am. I assume that most people are in by Thursday night. Really how important is 6th grade graduation to your son? ;D

i did not sit in any roo traffic getting onto the farm last year on friday afternoon. i'de say i rolled on in at around 2:30 ish.. i will say.. they parked me WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY out of the way. luckily i hauled my stuff to my friends campsite.
the year before that i too arrived friday.. but took the airport shuttle in. so no traffic either.
