The monster grass cut up my legs and poked little holes through our ground cover and tent... We ended up putting an extra tarp down to protect the tent.
Next year I might bring a plank with some rope handles to stomp down the grass around my site with... like they do to make crop circles.
^I bet it was the bug spray one member of my group had to wear socks all weekend because she got a rash whenever the freakishly tall VIP grass touched her skin. The rest of us were fine, we all go camping together a lot, I would have noticed if she just had a grass allergy before.

We were in Camp Mr. Miagi right near the ferris wheel entrance and had the same grass. Only one person in our camp had an issue with the grass. Her legs were cut up pretty good. Same poor girl that got her bag stolen. The first thing that I thought when I got out of the car was ticks. Went straight to my bag and covered my legs in Deet.
No tick issues, but did anybady else have swarms of grasshoppers popping out of that tall grass?
Meg, that sounds like an idea. Spray for fire ants. I am NOT allergic to grass, but something that they put on it.
Could also be allergens that settle on and around the grass - Moving from NY to TN I've been exposed to all sorts of new weird allergies - especially in the form of skin irritations. My car has no AC so I drive with the windows down, and a couple weeks before 'roo I developed a rash on my neck, which I could only conclude came from something in the air I encountered while driving. Luckily I could use the prescription cortisone cream I got for that on my legs a roo.
Allergies overall have been considerably worse this year for the Middle TN area.
...then again druid - you're from Nashville so you could be right about the chemicals
I was also wondering if people were having reactions to the chemicals sprayed to control ants/insects. That's why I took a few carpets to lay down in camp. I react pretty badly to chemicals in grass. The carpets worked. Didn't have a problem all week
I was in Campsite 1 (which sucked) but there were many less bugs than I thought there would be. And while the grass was tall, I think it helped things not get too muddy.
