I am a huge comedy fan and some of my favorites were at Roo this year. First of all, the new tent rocked. I hated sitting outside for hours last year to get a seat. Having the bigger venue allowed for us to catch a show at our own pace.
I saw Zach - awesome show, just as funny as his shows we have seen on the internet and TV.
I saw the show with Brian Posehn and Lil' Jim Norton. They were both great. My wife always thought that Jim looked like a child molester, so she wouldn't watch his shows on TV. His set won her over. Damn fine show.
The girl that opened for Brian and Jim could not quite get the crowd going. During the end of her set, someone yelled, "Shut the f*** up!". I thought that was out of line, but clearly the crowd wasn't feeling it.
Best of all was Louis C.K. We had seen him live before and he was just as funny this time. His opener did a great job and had some memorable bits. The crowd seemed to like them both.
Louis C.K. had a great line about Chris Rock's show. They are good friends and somebody asked Louis about playing a large crowd. He said something like, "Even if 40,000 people thought you were good, you still bombed in front of about 20,000 people."
Zach was awesome. Mike Birbiglia totally upstaged Janeane Garafalo. I must be in the minority liking Michelle-something that opened the Norton/Posehn sets.
I spent a good bit of my time in the comedy tent. I saw the Garofolo/Birbiglia/Allen show, the Galifianakis/Watts/Mulaney show, as well as Lewis & DeRosa. I missed out on the ock n Roll show with Posehn but I was satisfied.
I was hoping Birbiglia would've had more new material, but I understand most comics have to give the same performance whenever they're on the road. I thought Zach would have been my favorite, but CK Lewis made me laugh the most. I also liked Janine Garofolo. She's really short!
I saw Jimmy Norton and Posehn too... They were pretty damn funny. Posehn was obviously very smoked up. The woman who opened for them wasn't THAT bad! She made me laugh.
I got to see Zach Galifianakis, he was hilarious! I'll definitely be making more trips to the comedy tent in the coming years. Unfortunately, though, I missed Chris Rock on the mainstage (one of my few regrets from the weekend).
I saw the 1:00 Saturday performance of Joe DeRosa and Louis CK. Both comedians were very good. I wish I had a chance to see more of the comedians, but there just wasn't enough time.
the guy you asked about wearing the dxm shirt is reggie watts.
i saw all the shows. funny or die was great, they had the cast of human giant. awesome surprise. i was VERY disappointed that they also had mike birbiglia come out when he had one of the weakest sets all weekend. i was like, "i have already sat through one of his sets, do i really haveto sit through another?" you do not go to a music festival filled with people you know the majorityof the crowd might be on something and perform lame material. i am a huge fan of mulaney and he could have used his NO NO WORD jokes. isn't it a comedy nobrainer to perform and cater your set to your crowd? yes, yes it is.
the best wsa joe derossa oddly enough, and brian pusahn. he killed it in his first show, so much so they switched him with jim norton to close the show, instead of jim. that is huge. michelle was trying way to hard.
normally i am not so critical but the line up was nothing compared to last years. the tent was great, but they still need to fix the seating/waiting in line for hours problem. not only do you have to wait in line to get seated, you have to wait in line for a ticket for that seat. problem is easily solveable if they just spaced out the shows further apart so people can be seated as they arrive at the tent, and sit down in the cool air.
For instance program could say: Doors open: 3pm Showtime: 3:30pm
As people arrive there wont be a line, they'll just be seated. PROBLEM SOLVED
