On both sides of the What Stage there is some sort of scaffolding and then a flat area with rails that sits about 15 to 20 feet up. I see people stand there during shows and rush up there. How does one get there? Is it some sort of extra special VIP? Just curious if anyone knows what I'm talking about and what exactly it is...

Im pretty sure it's people who are playing Bonnaroo who want to watch bands and VIP but Im not 100% sure if its VIP or not.

Theres never that many people, so i agree that its just for other artists and backstage passes. If it was vip i think it'd be packed, which it usually isnt.

They need to make a super VIP for us rooers to buy so that we can be back there too....Wakarusa has front row viewing for VIPers at all stages, I think Bonnaroo needs to find better ways to accomodate the VIPers in that area.

I'm going VIP this year, but I disagree. I think everyone should have a fair shot at getting close for their favorite bands. I think VIP have it good enough. Just my thought
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Is that the section Lewis Black is standing in and talking about in the video clip on the Bonnaroo site? He says something about standing right up next to the stage and it looks like he is off to one side, then says only folks like him get those spots because they can't pay him enough in cash to do Bonnaroo so they give him special passes or some such thing.
But I've heard voices not in the head Out in the air they called ahead Through ripped out speakers Through thick and thin They found a shelter Under my skin -Evgeny Aleksandrovitch Nikolaev

I knew I read somewhere about the viewing decks and was a deciding factor in my purchase of VIP tix this year. Below the pix in the VIP sales description it says viewing deck for 2006 for this link. www.ateaseweb.com/live/2006/20060617.php

The rafters to the side of the stage are for Bands-and guest of the bands... and guest of the festival! Same people who get to hang out to the side of the tent stages as well! (luckies)
Press -media get the front of the stage, then guest and other bands watch from the sides.
Vip's get those bleachers, but i don't reccomend them during the day!
I'd love to get that golden ticket, i bet you get on stage!!
The viewing areas on the side of the stage are for people with an "artist" pass. However, artists passes are not only for artists, but also for crew members and guests of artists and crew members. The stage left side is for these people. The stage right side is for people with even more access. They only let fifty people on those main stage decks at once. The artist passes also get you backstage, which gives you access to an unlimited catering tent and a bar that serves grey goose and microbrews for free. It's awesome. It also gets you to the side of all the other stages.

I don't remember where I saw it, but I saw where tix for the side viewing area are available for everyday people to buy, but you have to buy them in an on-line auction and the money goes to some charity. So this would be on top of your regular or VIP ticket cost.
its for guests and artists only. I made it almost all the way up there and the guys camping next to us were up there for Radiohead and Phil. Im not saying how though.
